Map Editor

Post by pburton2000 »

Is it possible to have the MAP editor utilise modded terrain files when creating new 2D maps or will it always look in the default -> ...\Matrix Games\Campaign Series Vietnam\Graphics\Map\2D directory ??

You see my goal is to create a new map BUT I want to use my own custom Jungle terrain files.

Yes, absolutely.

You can mod the pretty much all of the map or unit graphics files.

You can see an example of this by taking a look at Umbra's 3D table top gaming mod where he changed the 2D vegetation graphics and made them into 3D tiles.

It is great to play with it!

Ok thanks Jason.

So I'm a little confused by the files in some of the mods I've just looked at .

e.g The "2D Blue Water Mod" and the "2D Boardgame Vibe Mod". I opened a few random BMP files from these mods and compared the look of them to the original files of the same names in the default game 2D Map Directory and they look exactly the same to me ?? Am I missing something ?

Cheers

The Blue Water mod adjusts the terrain tiles to have a blue water colour. I believe all the files in the mod are affected with the new colours.

The 2D Vibe Mod does the following:

Boardgame Vibe Mod adds stronger hex outlines to Vietnam 2D terrain. By UMBRA_TSSI. Thank you!

Details:
- Ambient Terrain: solid in color, lowest elevation being lightest.
- Hex Outlines: they are put onto the terrain hexes themselves.
- Paths: darker.
- Unpaved Roads: darker.
- Paved Roads: darker.
- Villages: increased saturation.
- Marsh: sage in color with green specks.
- Swamp: sage in color with green specks.
- Flooded Paddies: sage in color with green specks.
- Stream: light sage/blue.
- River Fording: light sage/blue.
- Shallow Water: color lighter than deep water.
- Rough Terrain: redistributed boulders.

Ok cool so for testing purposes if I change the "Dense Jungle" terrain graphic in the "TropRainForestGreenTrees8d.bmp" file is that the only file i'll need to put in my Mod Directory once I create a Test mod for it to be displayed in game for that zoom level ? (I can do the other zoom levels later i'm just trying to understand the Mod override mechanism)

Yes, I believe that is correct.

As long as it is named the same and the file extents are the same, it should be fine

Please use the provided JSGME mod enabler tool for your own mod from the beginning to make sure there'll be no unintended mishaps when replacing stock files with your own. Always worth a reminder! Copy an existing mod folder as a basis as they have the proper subfolders already in place, just put in your own files instead.

More JSGME info on the Modder Guideline post of mine. Good luck !!
