Valor & Victory mystery attacks

I've just started playing Valor & Victory and have encountered a situation that I can't find mentioned in your forum. I move a unit - infantry or AFV - into a hex and it lights up and a combat table appears. Something attacks that unit but no enemy unit shows a yellow circle or other sign of activity. I cannot figure out what is attacking. LOS to the attacked hex doesn't show any visible enemy. Is this normal? How can I find out what just happened? This first happened in Payday for French commandos.
