ZoC Calculations...

According to the documentation, the ZoC is "equal to the stacking size of all friendly units located in—or adjacent to—the hex in question". I presume that means given any hex, the ZoC is the sum of the stacking size of all friendly units in or adjacent to that hex. Yet, when I use the Hex Details Popup I am often not able to reproduce the ZoC calculations described. I tried to boil it down to an egregious case where a panzer battalion of Regular quality and a stacking size of 2 exerts a ZoC of 0 (according to the popup). Note the ZoC overlay seems to indicate that this unit is exerting a ZoC.

Is this a bug with the Hex Details Popup or am I misunderstanding something?

Hi, ZOCs don't extend over impassable hexsides, so if you press the key 'E' you'll see impassable hexsides as black lines.
Could that be what's happening?
Cheers,

I don't think that's it, because the hex details popup in the screenshot is showing the hex the unit is occupying (and showing a ZoC of 0). It's also showing a ZoC of 0 in all the adjacent hexes. For clarification, this screenshot was taken during the planning phase of turn 2 of the introductory scenario. The ZoC calculation shown in the hex details popup seems very inconsistent and doesn't seem to reflect reality (it doesn't even seem to agree with the ZoC overlay for instance).

I believe that this may be working as intended, but some clarification would be good.
  1. I assumed that a unit's stacking size would contribute to the ZoC value of the unit's own hex. But it doesn't seem to do that (however adjacent units do contribute to the unit's ZoC, as expected). Maybe that makes sense as it's assumed that a unit fully controls its own hex and thus the ZoC is irrelevant. But, I don't think the manual explicitly states that and the shading of the unit on the ZoC overlay would suggest that there is a ZoC value in a unit's own hex. It may be a small detail, but I'm just trying to make sure I understand the mechanics and the manual isn't entirely clear on this.
  2. I think my other thread about the hex details popup "locking" bug is partly to blame here. I believe the hex details popup gets locked onto another hex intermittently. It also seems to show different information than the fixed hex details window on the information pane to the right. So I think that added to my confusion. On a side note, the "yellow highlighted hex" is really confusing because intuitively I'd think the hex details window would reflect that as the "selected hex." I am just learning to ignore the yellow hex now.

Ah, I see now. Will look into it...either update the manual or update the zoc handling.
cheers,
Brian

Fixed that now. Will be in the next patch.
As you say, units aren't contributing to the ZOC of their own hex.
Cheers!

Thanks for fixing it. Great game, really enjoying it!
