Ship Automation in Military Ships Menue

Post by Schatten »

right now you need to set every single ship to the automation level you like (all between full auto and manually).
Pls change it so tha you can select multiple ships (lets say 40 Destroyers) and set them all at once to Auto-Guard or Auto-Patrol etc.
right now you need to do it for every single ship.

Automate the fleet. Or I mean you can select many ships in list by holding ctrl/shift key and then switch the auto level by pressing a key, look in the key settings. (settings -> key mappings -> cycle automation settings)

I speak about single Ships and not Fleets. There is no option to give orders to many single ships at once.

I did understand you. I don't know why you have to change the automation level from many ships not in fleet. But as workaround make a fleet of the ships change the automation level and disband the fleet.
But it would be nice if cycle automation level would work with ships not in fleet. But QoL and desired features I will not wish till the game is bug free.

Simpel, i build Destroyers and later Cruiser as single ships. If you let them on automation they do usless shit (thanks again for the * KI *) like escorting other ships (without fuel etc cc) at other side of the Map etc.
So you need to put them on Auto-Guard.
Now thats impossible over Fleets since if you put them into Fleet you can put them only on Manual or full Auto and if you than disband the Fleet they go into automation mode and do the shit i posted above.

So you have to put every single ship one after next on Auto Guard (so they stay at Planets or Stations). Have fun if you got first 200+ of them later.
So we need here a fix so you can change their orders for all at once.

I don't want to discuss only help with workarounds.
The following is only a tip/workaround:
I build ships like you once. Then I created fleet templates and build if not enough money for whole fleet only one ship of desired fleet -> create fleet and then use topup button.

But if you really want to have ships not in fleet I understand your opinion it would be nice if cycle/set automation also here works.
In my opinion ships not in fleet are useless.

Because of top up button still build ships at far away colonies I find a better way to build fleet:
Instead of top up button build where the fleet is the missing ships for fleet they be put to the fleet automatically to fleet if they are build and left spaceport.

As said its simple. I want ships not in fleet for special reasons (guarding, hunting solo merchants in war etc). in lategame i often build 200 or 300 Destroyers or Cruisers at once for this reason. as for now you can have them only manual or full automation on start..if you go full auto they do stupid things like escorting Merchants or Explorers all over the Galaxy while having no fuel tanks for that etc.

If you put them on Auto-Guard they guard your bases or planets in your space. But to do it so you need atm click 200-300x times every single ship and seit it to auto-guard.

I want a option to select all 200 ships (like you can now for upgrade, retore etc) and be able to set them all at once to auto-guard (or whatever you like). cannot be that difficult or?

Perhaps there was an intention to have specific hulls be assigned to specific solo ship roles? In particular hulls with a 'Patrol' in their name seem to be an obvious choice. A Patrol Escort however implies a different paradigm offering the AUTOMATION a choice fulfillment. Who says that escorting has to be escorting a moving unit; without a game MOD, mining base hulls reach a static defense limit early in the game progression and can benefit from having solo ships protecting their operations giving that much more time for defense fleets to prevent interruptions and waste.

Mass role assignment would also be an interesting feature to have for solo ships.
