How to Download a File

Post by JosephM »

Hello All,

This thread is to provide help for those who are having problems downloading a file from any of the download links we provide. Hopefully this will inform you of how to download a file and where this ultimately ends up saving to your computer.

We provide links through three servers: the BlueSnap server, the EDS server (where links come in the format tinylink.com/*******) or the FS server (where links come in the format fs.slitherine.com/data/public/*****.php). If you purchase a game then on the final page where your order is confirmed, you can click the link to begin the download. For other BlueSnap links, you will receive an email such as the attached image, where a download link is provided above a serial number. I've highlighted the link, so click this link to open the download.

For TinyURL links, you need only click the link or paste this into the address bar, and then once at the website you will be prompted for your download. For FS links, when you visit the page you will see the attached image. Click in the highlighted area to start the download.

Depending on your browser settings, you will be asked if you wish to download the file, open the file, or it may begin downloading or opening automatically. Attached is the prompt shown in Firefox which gives you this option. We generally advise to download the file, as this will mean it is stored on your computer, whereas opening the file will open it in your temporary files, which means that after restarting your computer or clearing temporary files the file may no longer be present.

Attached is the same choice in Internet Explorer. Unlike FireFox where the prompt opens as an internal window, Internet Explorer shows the link at the bottom of the browser window, as does Chrome

During the download if you are suffering slow downloads or incomplete downloads, then something is interfering with the download. Usually this is anti-virus/anti-malware software, so in the event you are suffering problems with the download it is adviseable to temporarily disable these while the download is occurring and to re-enable these once the download is completed. Depending on the link you are using, the link might have expired, so if it has please contact us as support[a]slitherine.com, preferably with the order number or the email address used for the order and we will reissue your link.

Once you download the file, the download location defaults to the "Downloads folder" (on Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10). If you are having trouble opening this file, you need only open any folder or Windows Explorer window and you will see your Downloads folder on the left hand menu toolbar. Attached is an image highlighting this in a Windows 7. Most browsers also allow you to right click on the download file and click on "show file in folder", "open containing folder", or similar, which then opens the download folder directly from the browser. So provided you have click download or save, rather than open, on the initial prompts then the file will be saved here and can be accessed at will. We also advise that you back this file up, or leave it saved in its current location so you have this if you need this in the future.

If you are having any problems downloading the file, if you need further clarity or if you need further download links, please feel free to contact us at Support.
