Yes, the map and geography may very well mirror the current and very unfortunate conflict in the Ukraine going on more than 100 days now.

The bottleneck is not programmer time. It is the content (OOBs, maps, scenarios etc.) creators, the data guys (and playtesters!) who are busy with other things.

I love WDS games but not the squad level games at all. So there is no comparison, Steel Panthers from Shrapnel Games wins hands down, it’s the only SP game that has been continuously updated and patched for 22+ years. Matrix’s version has not been patched since 2003 and does not really run on modern windows OS. Shrapnels version does.
