May the sailors Rest In Peace.

Can anyone spot a possible error in this article?

A Navy destroyer sunk by 2 Japanese kamikaze attacks in World War II has been discovered in the deep Pacific

Yes, I sent them an email.

The article originally read:
"The US airmen pictured above are relaxing in front of a "Betty" bomber seen in the background of the photo that is carrying an "Ohka" piloted bomb beneath its fuselage similar to the one that took down the Abele, Scot Christenson, the director of communications for the US Naval Institute, told Insider."
Now it reads:
"The Japanese men pictured above are relaxing in front of a "Betty" bomber seen in the background of the photo that is carrying an "Ohka" piloted bomb beneath its fuselage similar to the one that took down the Abele, Scot Christenson, the director of communications for the US Naval Institute, told Insider."
With this noted correction on the bottom:
May 26, 2023: This story has been corrected to reflect that the men pictured in the third photo are Japanese. A previous version identified the men as American.
Yes, I did send them an email about the error. I don't know if I was the only one or not, they did not yet send a reply.

Thank you for sharing.

Well done in spotting their mistake, and well done in sending them a mail so that they can correct their mistake.

Although, I seriously doubt that they check their emails from readers. I've given up on that long time ago.

Hopefully, the Mannert Abele is too deep for the sort of illegal salvage currently going on with the HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse. A repellent but rather common practice nowadays. Needless to say, the British aren't too pleased.

The Ministry of Defence has condemned the "desecration" of maritime military graves after reports scavengers had targeted two World War Two wrecks. A vessel, thought to be Chinese, has been seen at the site the British ships were sunk, off the coast of Malaysia. The "grab dredger" seen in pictures supplied by a Malaysian diver has two large cranes mounted on it and is said to be equipped with metal cutters that can be lowered to the sea floor to shear off and lift sections of steel and aluminium. Some 842 British sailors died when HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse were torpedoed by Japanese aircraft.

Well, the ship is detained - with WWII ammo on board! Too bad the ammo did not explode . . .

Glad to hear they apprehended the ship and crew. Apparently, this particular vessel has a squalid history of plundering WW2 wrecks, getting caught and doing it again.
