Thought I had this figured out, but I didn't.... if the image for the banner is stored at photobucket.com, what is the correct format for the code to put in the sig box in "my profile" ?

Thanks

OK - Try something like: (put in where you uploaded the file)
[xx image]http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/upfiles/7543/Banner_AVG.jpg[/image xx] - Delete the xx stuff at the beginning and end - i had to put them in to get this to show

It works. I think maybe you have to log out after you apply stuff to your profile before it will take effect. Oh well, it wasn't too much of a headache. Thanks for your help!

[edit: BTW "IMG" and "/IMG" do work; I suppose writing them out would as well.]

Whatever you do! Don't make a banner like Marky!
It gives everyone a headache when they look at it!

LOL Actually, I have to thank Marky, too. Because when I searched forum for "signature" I found his 'how do I?' thread and it got me started.

So thanks to Marky

Thanks Should it be a little smaller? The tiger would be even harder to see, but the way it is now if the IE "favorites" window is open the pic kicks the frames over to the right a little ways.

The size is good for me...but I have a 21" monitor running 1024x768 resolution too. Comments from those with smaller screens and lower res would help you more.

Anb I never open the favorite listing to the left. I use the drop menu at the top when I need it.

When I make them, I stay under 225 pixels on height and 525 pixels on width.

Ok, thanks. This is 512 x 192 and about 50k. I have a 17" at 1024 x 768 and don't usually use the favorites window, either; but if anyone is vexed I will reduce it a little.

If ya wanted to, you could make the WitP part bigger (you have the space on that side) and make it smaller but I think it is fine the way it is.

Funny you should mention that... At first I didn't have the WitP lines in there at all. Then I had a larger version of what's there now. The second line is a little small... but for some reason, I decided on this. But I've still got the layer with the larger font I can use.

What program are you using?...Photoshop?...are you using the 'save for the web' option? It compresses the file.

If you are using PhotoShop, I'd crop the image height to the plane and move the WitP part down and the fanboy part up and you can actually resize the whole image to get the plane bigger and still be inside the image size paramiters ya want.

Yes, photoshop, no save for web. The truth is, the pics (there are three) came from the web to begin with (sorry - is that cheating?). The plane is actually a painting on canvas, I think. Also, this is just a .jpg version of the file I thought I'd test with, since I couldn't find any de-structions on max. file size, res., etc. for forum sigs. I just guesstimated. If it's not sharp enough, I can try something else. Overall, I'm happy with it. For a while. 'Til I make another one -- Spongebob has Bubbly Buddy, and I have Photoshop.

That's just if ya want the plane bigger...If it was my sig, I'd leave it like it is and make the WitP large.

Just my 2 cents.

I does look good.

What version of PhotoShop are you running?

An you gan open your avatar in Photoshop and make the white clear and use the 'save for the web' option and choose .gif format and what is white now will be clear.

7.0 and a half. It's 7.0 with a 7.1 .tga plug-in, if that makes any sense. The original plug-in didn't work and my choices were to upgrade to 7.1 or download the updated plug-in. I chose what I thought was the path of least resistance.

The avatar (yours is cool, btw - USMC Saipan? I know I've seen the photo before) I didn't work so hard to do, but I think I would like it better without the white. Thanks.

My avatar is a marine on Okinawa.

As for your avatar, Open the image...click and hold the eraser button in the toolbar and choose the eraser with the asterisk looking thing next to it. Use that tool and click on the white part of your avatar. It will erase all the white connected with it. Click 'file' and choose 'save for the web'. A window will come up. This will optimize for better file size, i.e. faster download. Click the drop menu for file type and choose .gif and it will retain the clear parts of your image.

Excuse the edits, but I've had a bit to drink and can't type as well...

That'll work. Or AIM. I can't remember my yahoo IM name but it's here somewhere. If I find it I'll send you a pm here.

I did use the background eraser (I think that's the one with the asterisk?) for the tiger in the banner; just never thought to use it on Snoopy.

Thanks

Lemme see if I can get AIM real quick

BTW, where did you get this 'patch' for PhotoShop 7? I am running 7 and didn't know there was a patch.

Ok, there's a quick and dirty removal of Snoopy's background. The patch came from Adobe; IIRC I found it through their support pages. The only time it (the updated .tga) seems to make a difference is if you use alpha channels a lot. If I recall, the problem was that you couldn't save a .tga *with* alpha channels. With the update, you can. Dunno if that's still the case; this was maybe a year ago.

Also made the "WitP" a little bigger, too.
