TOAW V?!

Has TOAW V been announced? Would be great to have an updated version of IV with a modernized UI.

I have not heard such, although, for some reason, "TOAW 5" is sometimes offered as a search suggestion by search engines.

For me;
1) a major release with a new numeral in the name just means everyone has to pay for it again
2) the first thing I do when I open a save is revert back to the classic interface as I don't care for the new one, and I miss the old terrain graphics (I've seen screenshots with them in IV, not sure how to get them)

The pace may be slow but the game is under continuous development and hopefully we will see new features and maybe even bugfixes without having to buy a new release

When TOAW 3.5 patch was being worked on it was described as a free update to 3.4. Then someone decided to make new graphics. They gave us some bug fixes and marginal update for 3.4 and then roll out new graphics that kind of suck, a new user interface and call it TOAW4. So I'm assuming that if too much is added to TOAW4 then it will become TOAW5. I'm making that assumption based on past practices regarding Matrix and TOAW3.

I've probably bought four versions of TOAW over the years. I doubt I'll buy another until/unless there are pretty significant improvements.

I thought there was a Menu Option somewhere to do this, but I don't see it at the moment. If you can't find it either, maybe try this:

To make a very broad generalisation, the impact of the changes for small, simple scenarios has been relatively limited. The larger and more complex the scenario, the bigger the impact of the changes that have been added over the last 24 years.

I'm playing a TOAW III PBEM of a large scenario (designed for COW) at the moment and a lot of the problems with the scenario could be quite easily fixed by bringing it up to date.

I confess I've gone back to using TOAW3 - it's my eyesight - I only play occasionally but I find the 3.4.1.9 maps clearer.

That worked- thanks.

Ironically the scenario I'm playing right now really highlights the trouble with these classic graphics as the frozen and snow tiles really obscure a lot of the map. But I'll switch when it melts.

Try unzipping these into your Graphics Override Folder. If you don't like them just delete them. They shouldn't over ride any original files as those are located elsewhere.

Do you have TOAW I running on a computer by any chance?

None of them will install on a Windows 10 64 bit OS. I have the parts to build another machine or two and I have all the operating systems back to Windows 3.1 but what I don't have is the desire to dig though everything and put it together. I have considered doing that but then I ask myself to what end? [;)]

Thanks for the reply.

I wonder if someone who has version I running for some reason could load the "Zhukov" scenario to determine which three units should be withdrawn by the events.

Understand about the Win10 64-bit, eh, "stuff". It has bitten me once already.

Cheers
