If i run the game, at start it runs smooth and good .. then it starts after ~10min to shutter .. slow down even more and get unplayable - then i save (that take ages as the whole game is slow as hell) - and after an game exit and restart - then reload , it is smoth an nice as before .....
I run the game on an 4k monitor - the horrible UI problems it have here and shocking old engine that cant handle this in 2021 i will not discuse (have CampaignSeries Middle East, here the same - but this is based on an old engine and i have the hope [at last] the next updates make it run "out of the box" on an 4k desktop or give it the abilitty to run in an fullscreen where i can set the resolution it runs nice [as all other games i have that cant upkeep with the magic new 4k "ueber-technology" - i hope you get my sarcastic] .... "have" planed to buy CS vietnam and Distant Universe 2 .. but after i see "this" - i will hold all future buy after "i see" an game that works with 4k monitors [like the middle east update] from this puplisher - and dont come with "you musst set you desktop to the prg you will use" - like in win95 .... ....)

That post is close to unreadable. I think you're making fun of the game because you can't run it at 4k. I have a rig that runs it with no issues at 4k with no slow down.

Am curious why you assume its the game? You might be the first in eight years to say its struggling with 4k.

this musst be an joke or .... ?
I running over 30 different games with zero problems on this PC ....
It is clearly stated even in the tech support section that the game is NOT ready for 4k - and need aditional adjustments from the OS (set dpi scaling to system - only available on later win10 relases and at all not available on win7 or win8) or set simply the desktop to FullHD ..... an "smart" solution ........ ............ 2021 .................... and yes .. i am a bit upset to buy an game for ~70€ and i cant simply start and run it, like "all" other games on an 4k monitore at 2021 ...
but anyway - this dont cover my main problem that its slow down ...
Have try nearly every thing ... donwngrade map view ... smaller map window .. but nothing change - if i set after an massive slowdown, at pause, then the scrolling on map is again smooth - so i doubt it is the gfx or the "problems" with the 4k resolution .... have Win10 with an 12core Xeon CPU , 16GB RAM - AMD FirePro w8100 GPU with 8GB RAM .....

many text is "realy" tiny ... symbols hard to see ... and as an good example - the missions editor nearly unusable to read or adjust ....
additionaly last time i played i set the msg window to seperate - now if i doing this the window is simply "hidded" .. so i cant doing this again ....
and the scroll bar on the unit window on theright side get broken too numerous times ... so ... for an 70€ game today ........ no comment

You might try calming down a little and stop declaring the game and someone trying to sort out your incredibly unstructured rant a joke. I have used at least three different PCs with 4k and had no issues.

If you were a normal person, you just come in and ask if anyone else has experience using 4k with the game. They might have suggest a number of things, but you're not going to get much help being a jerk about it. Good luck with that. Try a couple more completely incoherent rants. Maybe that'll help.

Have you tried the 4kfix.exe in the root of the game folder?
It may not address all you issues around that or help you (it didn't for my own issues - also on win7 with increased dpi) but it may, so try it.

As for significant 'slowdowns', in such a short time as 10 minutes, hmm. Idk what would be causing that for the average scene so fast. I guess you could try disabling internet access for command and seeing if it's related to grabbing a ton of map data or someone since it sounds like this is a fresh install - though you did say\suggest you already disabled the more resource hungry map views.

It might be interesting to see pics of the various options screens and what overlays are enabled, which can all contribute to how much work has to be done every frame. Is there a sample scene that you're playing that slows down so significantly after ~10minutes that you could id or attach? I'm assuming you running 1.3 build 1147.30

Try clearing the message log. I see a big slowdown sometimes when my log has a big backlog of messages. Clearing the log helps a lot for me.

@KnightHawk75
thanks for the constructive feeback ;)
no - the 4kfix dont help (it only adjust the compatibility of the exe for windows to the values it should have - and this only work on newer Win10 version - older have the same compatibility settings as Win8 and Win7 and so get no benefits > as the game self will not magical transformed with this to an propper, for 4k developed, programm ....)

Dont think it is related to map loading , no difference with sentinel-2 view or without .... and dont think it is gfx related - as if i pause even in heavy slowdown - in the pause it is smooth as fresh startet .... and the gfx dont change the whole time ... will make an video to show this .. may take 1~2 days ... (and as you on the screnshot see - V1.03 Build 1147.30

@boogabooga
mhh .. have self seen that an, not enoumrmous if you consider the complexity of the game, amount of msg slow down , this was the reason i set the msg window seperate and "then" you can switch to "raw msg" that dont have an slow down (so it looks) - but this dont work more, as i say, if i now switch to seperate msg window, "no" window appear and i end with no msg info at all ....(an bug imho)

Good suggestion about the log.
Not sure what else to say, maybe disable the tacview integration just see if it make a difference(maybe something is going wrong there?).
Yeah I see the pic clearly now I had javascript disabled so pic was all pixelated last night when I first looked. (your '4k issues ' look the same as mine - I just live with it cause it's still playable and I'm not going to change resolution to 1080 or my scaling just for cmo to solve it).

have maked the video - still in processing on YT - will post link if it 4k "ready" ;)
the suggestion with the msg log dont help .... (will you see in the video then ...)
tacview i will test - but dont think so - as you will see, tacview stay full smoth all the time ...
[good advice to browse the web without JS active - use self noScript on firefox ;) ]
yea - the 4k problem will look on all "more than FullHD" screens the same, if he have not Win10 in an newer version (where the dpi scaling can be more controled) - but this dont help the developers to not get a propper 4k support in the programm - it s from MS inbuilt to support older prg where are no sucessor available or open source prg where a small team cant develope an 4k support - realy "not" for an relative new game engine (in therms of the year the COM engine was relased to how long 4k screens around ...) that dont get it ..... .....
But yes ... the 4k problem is bad and horrible - and not an positive thing in any way for the developers - i would with struggling (many things going hard with overlapping fonts/buttons) play it, if the slow down not happen ... this musst be an engine bug .... something like buffer overflow, path finding loop or something thats build up over time ...
will you see on the video then ..

Regards

I think what you are saying, and its hard with the formatting of your message, is that text is out of boxes and overlapping. There are DPI settings for that issue specifically. In fact, I think there is a pinned thread on it somewhere.

Ironic that someone who can't seem to format a simple forum post is complaining about formatting and things being hard to read.

btw, thats not going to solve your slow down problem. That is most likely config issue on your side. I have not seen any reports of what I think you are describing, though its hard to tell.

real world example: Running modded Op Brass Drum at 1:1 for eight hours with no issues at 4k on a Surface Book 3 with a chopped down i7 and a 1660 plus 8Gb RAM. Not a single slow down on current beta build. The Book 3 has a standard 4k display. Also ran for an hour and a half at full acceleration to scenario conclusion. Slows every now and then when over 200 missiles are in the air, but for only 5 seconds or so in real time then back to speed. Thats about 900 units in all.

My example highlights that you never even mention what scenario your playing. If its 10,000 unit affair, well, you'll get that.

for the funny "non helpfull" discus partner - i realy dont need to discus anything with you .....
or to say it "simply" >
in the post #11 + #12 you simply text nonsens - as i have already writen in post #3 that is an text in the tech section for user with problems in 4k - something you strictly deny at all..
original text from you > .. You might be the first in eight years to say its struggling with 4k ...
and second you make borderline claims for things that simply dont fit together > what have my non perfect text formating to doing with an game engine that cant handle resolutions over FullHD and is as effect then not clearly usable ??? - like you get out of arguments ...... LOL
and in post #13 you make again senseles statements and dont even realize that in the screenshot i postet (doubt you have looked at it ...) the scenario is well writen ......
so -- no -- , i have better doing in mind as discus "with you" ..... things that lead to nothing.

I would also suggest not spinning this up again. Its been relatively calm around here. We don't need you having a bad day again.

sorry to say this - but i get an assault from an anonym guy for full valid questions (the game engine CANT handle 4k self ... and an tech problem) - get shady insinuations for this (it is NO 4k problem ... the game runs fine on all 20 PCs i have with 4k and over ..you dont write perfect english so i make funy things over you ..this can only be interpreted as > you only talk lies and bulls*it) and then get again more from this .... Very helpfull here i musst say .....

Back to the real helpfull people...
here is the Video : https://youtu.be/aVMPmfo6DRY
It is realy not much going on here - it is only a small scenario with few units

You see at the start, with still pause game time, it runs nice and smooth (except the "4k problem" )
then i show the settings for the map and view
then i start Tacview ....
after this, i switch (or try) to an seperate msg window - then i show it is NO window appeared , and switch back to the integrated msg window
then i unpause the game ... and show how smooth it runs actual
show a couple of tacview gfx problems ...
after 9min i search the menu option to clear the msg log - and doing it ... (but thats nothelp at all)
then it starts noticable to slow down a little - not extrem - but it scrolls not more so smooth as from start - and it have simply nothing changed in game (more units/more fight ...)
over the whole time, tacview stay smooth and fluid ..
after 11:30 min it gets clearly even slower and with more shutter - the scrolling is horrible and so the zoom in/out
at 15:45 min around i save the game - and here you see how slow the save window is come .. as example i show my windows drawer window to see the system is in no way affected (tacview still smooth)

And as a serious side note to an mod or staff - can the game be refunded ?

It is not only the tech problem (this will be fixed) - and not only the 4k problem (but this have me realy shocked .. and i dont know if an fix even planed) - but all in one, with this "helpfull" forum, dont make the gaming an nice experience - for an so expensive game ...
(the staff/mod can see which games i own , and only one from this "Order of Battle WW2" have worked flawless on 4k)

Regards

Ok check out the video. German windows, lot of matrix games in the directory and a youtube account going back 4 years. So not me or anybody else.

Best way to help him is to get him to a dev.

Thanks

One of the best things to do to what the issue might be is turn on the diagnostics bar and see where the pulse time starts to go crazy. I think that might help narrow down the issue.

have managed to get back the "Seperate msg log" window by deleting the associated line in the config file ( config/command.ini )
maybe if the values here are out of expected values, the window dont open at all > an bug
as a side note - i like the log as "Raw Text" (faster to read) - but the window get after close/restart game back to "interactive text" - would be nice to stay on the last selected option

For the UI alignment problems: This is clearly a high-DPI issue (FWIW, it runs fine here on 4 different Win10 systems with high-DPI desktops). I assume at 1920x1080p the UI elements align correctly? If you can share your dxdiag file this would give us more information about your system. Also is this on Steam or Matrix-installed?

Some potential solutions:

* This: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4190908

* Check if your display settings include font-enlargement (this is often separate from desktop UI scaling).

* Try bypassing the "launcher" exe. To do this, create a shortcut on your desktop that points to [CMO]\Command.exe . Try running the game by using this shortcut instead of the "normal" one.

For the slowdown problem:

* Looking at the video you posted, the simulation slowdown _seems_ to coincide with distortions in the sound effects. This leads me to suspect there may be an issue with sound. If you completely disable sound effects & music (Game Options --> Music/Sounds), does the slowdown still happen?

* Also: If you temporarily switch your desktop to 1080p and play the same scenario, does the slowdown problem persist? (Trying to understand if the slowdown is caused by the 4K-related misalignment dragging down the entire UI & sim.)

Just to close the loop...

Ran Battle of Dang Hoi on two different systems at the same time.

i9-10950K with a 2080 Super and 32 GB of RAM. Rez is 1920x1080. Just used this as a control.

Surface Book 3 with an i7 and a 1660, 16GB RAM. Rez 3000x2000, DPI scale override by System.

On both systems ran for just over an hour. Ran both with TacView on, but didn't fiddle with it. Both had sound off (my default). No special map overlays on either. The i9 ran at 0-1ms pulse and the Surface ran at 1-4, with a few skips up to 15ms with missiles in the air at the beginning. No slow downs. In fact, the surface seemed to run a little faster once air threats and missiles boats were destroyed.
