Dateline Dec 8, 1941

Signal from the CL Leandar
"This is ENS Bell. To the commander of the Monawai. We have orders to escort you to Noumea pronto."
Monawai signals back
"Righto Leander. Will prepare to get under way."

On Dec 11, a day out of Noumea the Monawai receives another signal from the Leander
"You do have the chaps from the 21 NZ Coy with you right?"

long pause before a signal back
"We had best turn back to Auckland."

Rookie mistake by me going through 4400+ lines, but I can just see that type of thing happening on the 8th and the days after.

That is one way to learn. At least you caught it early and you were not trying to evacuate a unit.

Yeah, I had no idea how to load troops when I did turn 1. Now I can laugh about it:)

Learning how to make things happen and how to check that they did happen is part of the learning cliff you have to climb. And that is why I recommend new players to try the small scenarios first because they teach what you need to know in a water fountain drink amount instead of a fire hose!

Evacuations are a bloody To be honest, I would rather lose a few base forces than the ships also. Coral Sea did not prepare me for this, lol!

All that you actually have to do is to fly out one device and then the unit can be rebuilt. Obviously, it is better to retrieve the whole unit. While you can "buy back" units, they take up to 6 months to return, are just empty shells anyway, and there are better uses for your PPs.

A better question is why is an ensign commanding a light cruiser?

One of the odd quirks of AE was why those two ships get such unusual commanders.

It was Dec 8th. Could be any number of reasons why the captain and exec where not on board. Having tea and biscuits in Christchurch, off sightseeing, who knows? A lot of strange things were happening that day. Almost no one expected hell to rain down on top of them.

Just wait until you get an amphibious TF headed for the planned destination, run into unexpected trouble, decide to stop and wait with the TF for a few turns and then discover that your troops are unloading in some remote jungle coastal hex because you FORGOT to set the TF to Do Not Unload.

We have ALL been there and done that.

Looks like I might get two of them out. 5 ships to get the 2/15 Punjab Battalion, sheesh! Was g to maybe get all three there oh well. At least my air war is doing well. Shooting them down at better than 2-1 and have now out sortied him!

How about the player who unloaded rotten Sushi in Siberia? Stalin was NOT happy.
