Hi all, i'm a bit of a newbie (only completed 2 games vs AI), but was curious how effective/often people invade the USA and if so, when do they do it? I am thinking about trying it out, after Sealion (probably in 1941). The plan is to spend pretty heavy on Russian diplomacy to keep them out of the war as long as possible, hopefully i can get a quick capitulation from the Yanks. I also plan on minimizing China, and ignoring most of the rest of the Pacific and try to hit the west coast after a Pearl Harbor attack as Japan.

I worry that trying it after a Russian surrender that the USA would be far to powerful to invade, unless you get a quick(ish) surrender of them, say, before 1944. This is against a standard AI, by the way.

I've never undertaken an invasion of the United States as either Japan or Germany. Usually when the Allies offer terms I just take it. However, I've often thought an invasion of the continental United States in this game would be greatly simplified by the fact that the U.S.--unlike the Soviet Union, China or even smaller nations--spawns no partisans of any kind. Even France has more partisan hexes than the U.S. which has none.

So much for the NRA and private gun ownership. It turns out occupying the U.S. is a breeze.

That should be fixed. What would Philip K. Dick say?

Not necessary for the Axis to win, so if someone does invade the U.S., they're doing so just because they want to try it out. Realistically? No, but this game isn't about realistic play and events it seems. Unfortunately, pretty much anything goes, so some will try it.

There is a certain fascination with taking the war into geographical directions it never went. I recall when invading Pakistan and India with Rommel and his army group it was like watching a modern campaign by Alexander the Great. How far will he go before he has no more worlds to conquer?

Yeah, the lack of US partisans has been been brought up in the past. No Red Dawn scenarios in this game.

It is called "fun". You remember fun, don't you?

The victory conditions are those chosen by Matrix. Why can't a customer substitute it's own victory conditions?

You didn't really think this game is all about realism, did you? This game like all others looks for a balance in playability and realism, but the prime objective is for customers to have fun. (Be honest, the balance in this game is more heavy to playability than to realism. A single corps occupying a hex to the exclusion of other units? Please.)

Customers having fun is the business model. So let's all have fun.

Well, for one thing, just because you take every last hex in England doesn't mean the UK is out either. For me it has changed locations 5 times, first to Canada then to the South Pacific. One global game of whack-a-mole. Invading the US is a relative snap.

No wargame is fully realistic, and any decent historical wargamer knows this, so thanks for pointing out the obvious in your attempt to disparage my post. I am simply pointing out that Germany invading the U.S. is ridiculous, and its success would be logistically impossible. If playing for "fun" was the only reason for a game based upon a historical event, then you might as well suggest being able to research space ships. What's the point of modeling a game on WW2, if your going to just ignore the history of that period?

It's Strategic Command World at War, not Sid Meir's Civilizations, but I understand that there are many computer gamers who play wargames without a clue about the actual history behind it.

I'm intrigued by this, where has the UK capital moved to in the South Pacific? Is this in an official campaign?

Or instead of investing in the war against China, you can prepare for a surprise attack on the West Coast after taking Honolulu and the Aleutian Islands.

I guess against AI but against another player that would likely not end well. Plus better places push China back to avoid having a high MPP enemy on that front.
