Running into an odd condition in the UK: there are idle resources in Canada, unused convoys between Canada and the UK, and idle factories in Southampton and Hull.

Now there is the problem of those pesky Germans in London and environs, and ZOC does go into the rail path required - but there are Allied units in those hexes. Should I interpret the 2nd last paragraph of 13.6.1 so that resources cannot rail *THROUGH* ZOC even when there are friendly units there?

My apologies to veterans of the game, aside from continued crazy Axis luck, I am finding that I played the Allies way too aggressively early in the game thinking production would make up for it.... It didn't and it's just a battle of attrition for the Axis at this point now that I've figured out how navy works. Britain was doomed from my lack of understanding of how HQs, convoys, and convoy escort worked.

Then the Axis got a lucky lobsided sub battle, knocking supply out of North Africa on a critical impulse, so the entire Operation Torch got snuffed.

WiF is hard to solo when I'm such an offense-minded player. I can be good on D, but not when I allow my thoughts to always drift to attack strategies. <end self-rant>

Actually looks like fun. My solo games tend to be boring predictable affairs.

And I believe that resources cannot both enter and leave an enemy ZOC regardless of a unit being there or not... I defer to those of greater knowledge however.

Zoc in the rail a resource passes through, blocks the pass of it, wether you have own units or not except if it is the beginning or end of the line.

A resource could start in zoc (with own units) or end in a similar one, but not cross an enemy zoc between them even with own units.

It is kind of fun - I'm in territory I've never been in before in WiF for sure. Wondering whether the German Army in the UK will be a big POW camp, or whether it'll spell the final disaster for the allies. Certainly not looking good.. :/

If mishandled, convoys can be wrecked, crippling the allies or the Japanese for that matter. As the CW I tend to keep a close eye on the ranges of axis subs and make sure they can't attack anywhere without suffering significant losses no matter what combat they choose, and no matter their surprise points. With cruisers in the flames this is not that hard. I also make sure the CW keeps a steady flow of convoy production each and every turn (1-2). By the time Japan enter the war you should have a resilient system.

The convoys were a learning experience... Mostly for supply (Operation Torch snuffed!).

Where I'm still learning right now is in the Japanese-American Impasse between Truck-Rabaul-Pearl Harbor, Operation Sea Lion, and the immense logisitics of the Japanese South African campaign. 2 turns to ferry one unit makes for some serious planning needs!

This game is I'm guessing the highest fidelity game simulator of the war, maybe the highest simulation outside the actual war itself (unless West Point or the Frunze does history this way)... it's really brought to me the challenge the Allies were faced with in 1940! Despite my mistakes, there were some definite luck swings: two key Japanese battles in China that could've swung worse, a "reverse Midway" against the US, the flat-out lucky Italian conquest of Greece and Suez (THREE desperate 2:1 rolls that all came back 18+ on 2d10), and a couple lucky weather & turn rolls for the Germans in Russia. When the Allies asked the "dice gods" for luck this game, they were usually denied.

it will be a POw camp- but use the production to train pilot/planes. and fill UK with old fighters. they can suppress partisans, and rebase out when its time.
