No, it is not about the Siege of Syracuse, but apparently, even if it look satirical, it is about a historical fact: if the cost of the Yamato was worth it, and the corruption in the Japanese Navy plaguing the whole affair.

Interesting clip.

I wonder just how much could really have been done without building these ships. Just make it appear that they are being built for propaganda purposes but build more Aircraft Carriers and their escorts plus have a good air crew training program in place with much higher numbers of air crew being trained.

I will watch this movie when I get the chance.

Amazon says the DVD will ship June 15th.

The Great War of Archimedes

I received my DVD today, and I really enjoyed this movie.

The movie is set in Japan in 1932 except for a bit at the beginning and end. As the trailer shows it is a movie about the machinations between factions of the IJN.

I found the story kept my attention all the way through. This is a movie about the naval establishment, but not a typical "war movie". Perhaps it might be compared to "The Imitation Game".

@Platoonist, if the trailer intrigued you I will bet you will like the movie.

Production values, and acting were quite good I thought. Very glad I watched it.
