In WW2 the allies had far more and more reliable data about future weather patterns because the bad weather basically comes from the Atlantic and the arctic circle. The axis had very little if any information gathering capability in either.
So why do es the axis player have the advantage of knowing what the weather will be in the allies next turn when it should be the other way round, as has been corrected in WiTE2?

Clearly, the weather cannot change at the start of the allied turn, because the turn is over the same time period as the axis turn. The solution is that, at the start of the allied turn X, the allies should be notified of what the weather will be in turn X+1 in the reports section. In other words, a simple (I assume) notification change and not a game mechanic one.

This said, as I know nothing about programming, I just assume that this change would be very easy to make. I do not invite Alvaro to spend much time on a relatively minor issue. I have no idea whether the same change would be appropriate for WPP as I don't know much about that theatre, and nothing about weather forecasting issues there.

While you are right on this time scale it really doesn't matter who gets the weather first.

Disagree. It lets the German know what the Allies can and can't do in their part of the turn. It's a significant edge for the attacking player to know when he can and can't move for attacking.

Ok so say you have this knowledge on a 2 week per turn game? What do you do with it?

Do you send your armor away to the Russian Front since this turn there is rain?

I don't disagree on the intelligence about weather but you are talking about days difference not week differences. It is too small for this scale. Even if you know for 2 turns ahead the weather what are you going to do? Rail that armor turn 1, attack turn 2, rail him back turn 3? That's 6 weeks time.

There is good and bad with this...

For example...

The invasion of Russia.

The Russians see a clear turn and run for the hills before the German invasion. It is already completely unrealistic that they know they are going to get invaded and can plan accordingly. They already can save their entire airforce when in reality it was decimated on the ground.

Now they will know the exact turn the Germans plan to invade and can skip town prior and watch the Germans advance nowhere.
That would be totally unrealistic.

After that first turn invasion of the USSR sure...weather makes a huge difference when it is clear in the winter randomly...


Make it so the Russians get the 41 start and sure I am for this. But if not...I am against it until after that.

For the Russians to leg it east the turn before they expect/'know' when the baddies are coming would be stupid, and tricky for all those inf units in static mode. Russians have to fight forward to delay the nazis - and they need the experience gains that go with that.
As to foreknowledge, any axis player with some experience knows how to take out Poland and Belgium in 2 and 1 turns respectively, just as both players know exactly how to take out other neutrals as quickly as possible because the neutral set-ups never change and you can practise in PvE.

You are absolutely right about the red airforce just keeping out of reach, but if it doesn't fight it doesn't get any experience. In RL the soviet AF recovered very quickly (most of the planes lost in the surprise attack were obsolete, and many were probably unable to fly anyway, and relatively few pilots were killed. The AF recovered quickly and the axis lost huge numbers of aircraft and experiencesd pilots -unlike in WP where the losses from the red AF are minimal even if it does come out to play
