The cruise mode does not reveal the FoW, but does this make any sense? You know the path is safe if the ship reaches the target hex, and another ship can use the same path. Whether the FoW is revealed therefore makes no difference. You have the same information, but in cruise mode you are only annoyed by the fact that it is not displayed in the UI.

Giving a player less information is fine, but I think it's not a good design in a strategy game to just make the information harder to follow in the UI.

Or have I missed something?

There is a slight difference: You do not know that there are no ships there, only that are no ships that were eligible to ambush your type of ship. For example do a hotseat vs yourself and cruise a sub past an enemy sub, then take the same route with a surface ship.

A small difference, but you are absolutely right. Thanks.

Perhaps you can also explain this behaviour?
In the first video you can see a transport in cruise mode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6YSp6AhduA&t=772s
The second video shows the replay on the opponent side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbWA1kzNdFw&t=70s

After the DD was destroyed the transporter were moved to Algier. I expected this can be seen in the replay, but it cannot. Does this have anything to do with the cruise mode?

Yes, because vessels in cruise mode are both hard to spot, and not really any good at spotting either.

It's a trade off, so that they can often move safely, but at the same time without either side gaining much information (if any) from their movements.

post 3. It's basically a highly exploitable feature.

Thank you both, that's good to know.

@Bavre: Your thread is very helpful.
