When you buy a new unit you can choose the advance at zero cost. For example between Assault 39 or Anti-Tank 39, but if you change it to a unit on the map it costs you production, is this correct or is it a error?

You always pay for the advancement even when you build it based on the year.

But changing it on the map requires PP to do so.

I did not explain well. A unit on the map with advance Assault 41, that wants to change to advance Anti-Tank 41, has to pay additional PP, however if it is built as a new unit one it spends the same PP if it chooses advance Assault 41 or Anti-Tank 41. It should not be free the advance change of the same year on the map?

From what I understand, the unit that changes will always change to its same year (or lower). So a 1940 inf AT can never change to a 1941 assaut. It will change to a 1940 assault and then they will have to follow the normal rules to upgrade. The PPs paid are not for an advancement, they are paid for the privilege to change advancement (which is a new addition from a patch). If not it will be too easy. It would be strange indeed if not, as all of a sudden we could see the whole Soviet Army be changed in two week! It seems to me a kind of "control" mechanism.

PS : while we are at it

I understand why there was no XP penalty put on land units changing path (as most equipment would be more or less similar and/or just changing ratios). However, for air units, while the originally planned 10% would have been too much of a disincentive, it seems to me that 2% is maybe too little, more symbolic than anything else. I am wondering if 4% or soo would not be better and more realistic?

2% represents retraining on a new a/c.

As for the cost the build cost of a unit with X tech is built into the cost. Earlier year units cost less than later year units.

Yes I know, I am just wondering out-loud if it is enough and not just symbolic in its effect and if 4-5% would not be better?
