Yeah I'm really having problems dealing with the air war interface.

So first screen shot is my ADs this turn. Weather is good. Some of these ADs were AI created, then I threw in a few more recons of my own. Here it is.

That’s a LOT of recon.

Second shot is summary of the air missions after resolution.

zero aircraft flew on any of the ADs. I imagine it's coz I've done something stupid, but if someone could point out what I'm doing wrong I'd appreciate it (this has never happened to me before btw).

Check mission stance first. Are all your units resting?

Do you mean like advance/hold etc?

All AOGs are on advance

No, but let's try this. Please see below.

If you click on one of your directives, below right on your screen select Show Air Groups and No Fly Info.

Does anything appear next to your participating units in red?

When they are that brown colour it means they are not going to operate. I find that you have to assign an air group to them, for Recon mission a Koluft, etc.

I also had the problem where I accidentally turned on AI Assist and it wouldn't fly some of my missions (but in that case the boxes were still white).

M60 - when I click on my ADs, I don't see the screen on the right. But I am currently in the ground phase, do I have to wait until my next air phase before I can do this diagnosis?

Yes it certainly seems the brown ADs have no aircraft assigned. See below for detail of the screenshot above, where you can see the white ground support directive has planes assigned, and the the brown ones don't.

Why has this happened?

1 I've played many turns of the game and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. Probably user error, but what error?
2 Some of the recon ADs were AI created, some were user created. Why are even the AI ADs empty of aircraft?

If you check the air directive planning screen in the air planning phase and you see the list of AOGs at the bottom (when you select a specific AD to adjust/analyze), you can click the button that says "no fly info" and it will tell you why certain air groups arent able to be assigned. Could be for a variety of reasons: range or incompatible type are most common.

Thank you M60 - so I followed your instruction and now I can see that all my recon aircraft were either out of range (partially explained by my previous inability to get my air force to stage further forward!), or unready in the case of long range recon.

I was puzzled by one report however (below) which was a port interdiction I gave the Rumanians. In the report as you can see that no groups are displayed as even being capable of this mission. Why would this be - are none of the Rumanian bombers capable of naval ops?

are your Rumanian LB in the 'air command' or in that HQ that is attached to the LW? (realise that question could be more precise but you maybe able to work out the gist) - I've been caught out a few times with this

can't think they would be great for the mission but they should be able to take part (I think)

Thanks Loki - exactly that.

Yes, I'm sure they'll be next to useless in blockading a port but I'm still in the 'just trying to get things working' phase!

Out of interest, what are the pros and cons of having the Rumanian air under German or Rumanian control?

I'm guessing: German control = better leadership checks at OKL. Rumanian control = hmmm, not sure.

I've used Rumanian bombers for Naval interdiction, they are just not very good at it.

I also think this is because the bombers are not attached to the Rumanian air command.
