5 U-Boats are only able to sink 1 MS and take 2 more hits in return. Neither Hadros nor I in our mirror game are having much luck with our U-Boats.

Paris holds against 2 attacks. I send 1 medium bomber, 1 armour, 1 fighter and 1 Inf Corp to North Africa. The remaining Brits will return to Jolly Old England for now.

Call it a wild hunch, but I think Yugoslavia might be the next course on the Axis menu.

At the moment the Axis do not seem interested in Egypt. I can't blame them. They probably heard that it was defended by Canada's infamous desert troops.

One of the disadvantages of the All-In France strategy is that it requires the Canadians to build infantry units rather than my preferred choice of escorts. As a consequence I am way behind in building escorts. So it is lucky for me that Hadros hasn't sunk any yet (other than a Frnech one).

I am a bit crazy when it comes to these so...

I would have hit the Mech then tried to make the 8-5 retreat to pin the armor and not allow retreat.
At least tried...the UK can always run way faster than the Germans can pursue.

But I think you needed an Infiltrator advancement somewhere as you needed a bigger chance for retreat and needed the armor in Saint-Nazaire.

You were quite nice to withdraw UK units from France for Hadros to finish it.

You are right that it might have been worth the shot; but you can't runaway if you use all your OPs to attack.

Actually it was probably more guilt than niceness. I had assumed that Hadros was going to use the All-In defence on me in our mirror game. So when I found out he hadn't I felt some guilt that I had stooped so low.

AUG 2, 1940

Again 3 MS sunk and 2 U-Boat hits scored.

Paris is captured and France will capitulate next turn. I guess I wasn't feeling too guilty because all my French troops made several low odds attacks for the sole purpose of inflicting extra casualties on the Germans.

I forgot to take a screenshot of the Map, but here are the Forces and Casualties. Again note the high number of U-Boat hits against just 1 escort sunk. Has there been some change in the Rules that I don't know about?

One odd thing is that even though I inflicted far more casualties on Hadros' Germans than he did on me in our mirror game (including shattering 4 units vs 1) his German Force strength is greater than mine.

AUG 16, 1940.

Vichy is created and Hadros wasted no time DOWing Yugoslavia. I forgot to take a screenshot of Yugoslavia, but don't worry, it was pretty boring. Here is a screenshot of the much more exciting liberation of Syria by UK troops.

AUG 30, 1940

Hadros finally has a good turn in the BoA. He sinks 5 MS and 1 escort and takes no U-Boat hits. Gambling that he will not be invading England I put all my infantry there into garrison mode. This gives me enough production to build 1 escort, 10 MS and 5 AA. The AA will be needed as he is threatening Malta. Of course they will arrive too late for Malta. But I am sure I will find a need for them somewhere.

Yugoslavia will not survive the summer.

The Axis reinforce Libya. I don't feel threatened yet; but I am not about to go on the offensive either.

SEPT 13, 1940

5 MS and an escort sunk, but also 4 hits on the U-Boats. The Brits build another MS.

Malta is bombed and blockaded. Another German unit unloads in Libya

Yugoslavia is still holding out, but the end is near.

0 MS sunk as all U-Boats are in port. Yugoslavia is conquered and there are now 3 German units in Libya. Meanwhile the blockade of Malta continues.

OCTOBER 11, 1940

0 MS sunk as the U-Boats remain in port. I abandon Malta. Hadros continues to reinforce Libya. Now that he doesn't need his air units to bomb Malta it will be interesting to see where he moves them. If he moves a large number to Libya then I will know that he is serious about conquering Egypt. Well, unless it is just a bluff to get me to denude the UK of units.

OCTOBER 25, 1940

2 MS sunk, but also 2 more U-Boat hits. Like I said, Hadros' U-Boats suck almost as bad as mine. With the BOA going well the Brits build another Mechanized rather than MS and escorts. Canada does build an escort though.

Surprisingly, Malta is not invaded. I am guessing either Hadros didn't have any LC or else all his units were in garrison mode.

NOVEMBER 8, 1940

1 MS sunk in exchange for 2 U-Boat hits. More bad news for the U-Boats is that the UK ASW is the 1st Allied tech to reach 41 Tech. But I build 10 more UK MS anyway.

Malta is captured by the Germans and Hungary and Rumania join the War.

DEC 6, 1940

2 MS and an escort sunk, 2 more U-Boat Hits.

Hadros never bothered to occupy Bordeaux after the Brits vacated it after the fall of France. I was hoping he had forgotten about it and I could use it as a springboard into Europe at a later date. But on his turn he moved a Hungarian unit towards it, so I decided to occupy it.

DECEMBER 20, 1940

Only 1 MS sunk. As Hadros didn't seem too serious about kicking me out of Bordeaux I decided to reinforce. Unfortunately I forgot about his bomber.

So I moved in 5 AA and some naval assets and got a better result. I should have soaked him off like this in the first place.

After waffling I decided to go big or go home and added an HQ and fighter as well.

Meanwhile Iraq is also invaded.

JANUARY 3, 1941

I forgot to take a broad view screenshot, but you will have to trust me that Hadros decided to take my Bordeaux venture seriously after all. A half dozen or so Luftwaffe units showed up along with a couple German Corps. So of course I run. I decide to reinforce my forces in Bordeaux with some naval assets. This time I did not fare as well against the Luftwaffe; but how come my fighter did not intercept? Is this a known Bug?

In hindsight I should not have bothered stationing the naval units in Bordeaux. They will help if Hadros tries to ground attack the hex. But I believe it more likely that he will just sink them. The only reason I did is because my HQ is also embarked in the Port, but I should have just sacrificed it rather than my fleet. Oh well, it will marginally weaken Barbarossa or maybe I will get lucky and there will be heavy rain.

The reason I didn't leave the naval units I already had in Bordeaux there is because I moved them to Gibraltar which was being threatened by the entire Italian surface fleet. The first big naval battle is a draw.

It may have been premature of me write off the German U-Boats. This turn they sunk 6 MS and an escort for the loss of only 1 sub. What is equally alarming is that the entire German surface fleet has sortied and is currently steaming West of Ireland (forgot to take a screenshot). On the other hand, I got off a lot lighter in Bordeaux than I perhaps should have. The Axis bombed my infantry corps twice and my fleet once. In doing so they lost 14 air points to my 3 without scoring any hits on my ground or naval units. But I run anyway. Below is the screenshot showing why.

5 more MS and an escort sunk as against 3 U-Boat hits. There were 8 U-Boats in action with at least another 1 in port. I now only have 10 excess MS.

With the RN closing in, the German surface fleet retires back to Kiel.

The Axis advance in Egypt; but with only 3 German units present and the best Italian units on the Russian border, I am not worried yet.

FEBRUARY 28, 1941

5 MS sunk, but 6 U-Boat hits and I gain 10 MS from my build queue. I barely have enough MS to carry all my resources and oil.

Question: If I lack enough MS (which I soon will) what will get priority, Resources or Oil? If Oil gets priority than it seems to me that I don't want to conquer Persia as that would give me even more oil taking up space on my MS that I would rather use for resources.

I found this in the Manual, but I don't know what it means:

"Merchant Marine—Resources transferred over a convoy route require merchant marine. The game
automatically calculates how many merchant marine a country will need to transport the resources. If a
player lacks the ships required, the difference percentage is taken from the total shipped. Production
and oil are equally affected"

Does this mean that if I have 150 Resources and 50 Oil but only have 100 MS that I will receive 50% of each? In other words 75 Resources/Production and 25 oil. If so, is there anyway I can arm the rebels in Iraq and Persia myself so that they blow up the rail lines transporting the oil:)

It is possible...but I know I have never gotten PP to go to Persia. I believe I did to Iraq but that was through the Med.

Strangely I have seen Italian MS transport oil from Iraq around Africa...NO idea HOW that would ever be possible but maybe they are flying UK flags?
