There was some discussion prior to the release of the new patch about adjusting the rail conversion rate in Russia but I don't see any mention of it in the notes to the patch.

Under Russian Front Changes it reads:

Change map terrain and rivers in Russia for a slower progress game.

Does this mean the movement costs for terrain and rivers has been increased?

The Soviet corps conversion to army helps the Russians but the other two changes helps the Axis.

We just completed our first PBEM game and the Axis demolished the Russians so I am going to have to do things differently. There seems to be varying opinions as to whether the Russian front is balance.

Nothing has been changed regarding rail conversion rate.

USSR map is now having more rivers and more terrain such as Woods, Forests, Swamps. As such, the movement costs have indeed increased because instead of 1, you have now to cross terrain with 2 points or more.

These are more defensive lines for USSR and for the Germans when they will fallback.

Russia is a lot harder but possible with luck. The secret is to increase the Red Army experience by combat.
For example, take this 27th Army. It was shaken by the Panzer Corps.

So, I pulled it off the front line.

Next turn, since my based experience for Russian land units is 50%, replacements increase the unit experience.
The 27th Army experience is now 43% instead of 42%.

Rail conversion rates are fine. The front just needed the pace to be slowed down for the Allies early and the Germans late in the war.

As I said here, I think that lowering Soviet default experience from 35% to 30% is problematic:

But it seems I am the only one thinking this.
