Here is a link about the Russian BCs. It is pretty impressive with their updated arsenal.

Yeah pretty impressive upgrades considering their age. Even the Kusnetsov always seemed like the B team to me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Gren LPD Mod looks like.

That thing is almost THREE football fields long. That's one heck of a big ship. And, they call it a BATTLECRUISER. I'd hate to see an actual BATTLESHIP, if that's just a cruiser.

Up to 60(???) hypersonic missiles? Yeah, that'll bring some "oomph" to the party.

That upgrade sounds like quite an arsenal, if it all ends up in there. Very impressive.

They're impressive offensive weapons but they're still glass cannons.

Their ability to take punishment is extremely limited.

In terms of point defence? Same could be said for an aircraft carrier.

In terms of hull integrity, armor, and redundancy.

It wouldn't take a fraction of the punishment an Iowa class BB could have taken and still be operational.

Point defense can only do so much.

I suppose it's an example of a good offence being an excellent defence then.

Every time you put an Iowa up against a Kirov, no matter the generation - the Iowa doesn't get close enough to shoot anything but it's TSAMS, and that is no where near enough. One-on-one the the Iowa doesn't stand a chance, with a decent but roughly equal escort screen; same.

Add in carriers it is a different ball game, but the Iowa becomes nothing but an old uncle you need to sit in the corner so he doesn't embarrass himself.

Kirovs are impressive ships, so are the Iowas but for a different era.

Isn't that true of pretty much every modern era ship though?

When an ASM can have a 250lb shaped charge or more, the benefits of actual armor get out-weighed very fast. Iowa's are obsolete for a reason.

1v1 is meaningless since that would never happen.

I disagree with your assessment of the outcome with roughly equal escorts as the most likely ship to survive would be the Iowa. The Kirov would be mission killed, if not sunk, just like much of it's screen and the Iowa's screen.

Take into account that aircraft are likely involved with most naval combat and the Kirov really has a small chance of survival.

All I've tried to say is that the Kirov is an impressive weapon, but it's just as easy to sink as any modern destroyer or frigate.

Of course. But that's why bigger more expensive ships are nearly as cost effective as having more smaller ships that can put out more missiles.

Personally, they remind me of modern day Yamato's, I tend to agree that One-on-One they would dominate a fight, but in a real naval/air engagement they will be overwhelmed. The Russians just aren't producing enough modern escorts and I also have serious doubts about the yard work supporting them. Not sure these systems are going to work as advertised.

Wait, what? Aren’t three of the four Kirov class either decommissioned or laid up?

Well yes -- oh but not in Northern Fury! Three of them are out and about giving NATO and the US Pacific Fleet a hard time...
