I suppose it's an example of a good offence being an excellent defence then.
Every time you put an Iowa up against a Kirov, no matter the generation - the Iowa doesn't get close enough to shoot anything but it's TSAMS, and that is no where near enough. One-on-one the the Iowa doesn't stand a chance, with a decent but roughly equal escort screen; same.
Add in carriers it is a different ball game, but the Iowa becomes nothing but an old uncle you need to sit in the corner so he doesn't embarrass himself.
Kirovs are impressive ships, so are the Iowas but for a different era.
1v1 is meaningless since that would never happen.
I disagree with your assessment of the outcome with roughly equal escorts as the most likely ship to survive would be the Iowa. The Kirov would be mission killed, if not sunk, just like much of it's screen and the Iowa's screen.
Take into account that aircraft are likely involved with most naval combat and the Kirov really has a small chance of survival.
All I've tried to say is that the Kirov is an impressive weapon, but it's just as easy to sink as any modern destroyer or frigate.
I used to enjoy these forums. So many people that need the green dot now.
