Air Units

Just curious how air unit upgrades are handled. Are actual historical types present (p-40s, p-38s, Corsairs, etc..)? Can you upgrade from, say, Wildcats to Corsairs? Or is all of this handled abstractly with generic fighters, medium bombers, heavy bombers, etc..?

I think this is abstracted like in the first Warplan (Europe).

Yes it is just the year of the technology. The scale is too large to have individual air planes. Each air counter is a mix of air units with a general purpose.
