I will try to present and keep up to date, whenever possible, an AAR between me and PL1. For now, it would be better if PL1 does not come to peek. He is already a very good player and does not need the extra intelligence by looking at my units' deployment!

On the morning of September 1st, 1939, the Wehrmacht implemented the Fall Weiss strategic plan. German troops advanced from three different directions toward Warsaw. Polish defender in Krakow and Poznan managed to heroically repulse some violent assaults by German infantry, but OKH is confident that the next assault should dislodge the defenders.

Meanwhile on the Western front, on the pretense of an obscure pre-Napoleonic treaty, the LXVII corps entered Luxembourg to secure a wedge between France and Belgium while two U-Boat flotillas, including one equipped with top-of-the-line submarines, sailed in the Atlantic for some hunting.

All eyes are now turned on the Allied reaction…

The Polish government issued a formal protest when it realised that France and the U.K. will not mount any meaningful offensive in the West. But it would probably have not changed the fact that by the second half of September, all important urban and industrial areas are under German control. Only a few scattered and battered Polish units are left and they are in no shape to fight; they eventually all surrender or disband while their soldiers are trying to reach neutral neighbouring countries.

Late September, everything is calm but after a weak start, the U-boats score their first real victory

Glad to se we have a public! But really, "good luck to both players"? I still have to beat PL1 on either side. I thing I need some asymmetrical luck

I might easy on the posting until we reach April 1940 however, unless something unexpected happens of course.

That's a pretty hard sub hit for so early in the game. Two 40's subs taking out 5 merchants and an escort on the first time at sea.

The previous one was only one MM and the following one 3 MM (and no escorts). I must have rolled very well that turn! Now I am afraid that I will pay with an equivalent bad luck in the following turns!

Actually, one flotilla is still 1939 type. But it will go back home very soon for upgrading. It kind of deserves it!

British escorts are still having a bad time in the Atlantic, they were clearly not prepared for this! After 2 months of operation, the two flotillas head back home for repair, upgrade and R&R. The 13 MM sunk within that period are within expected results, but the two escorts are a very nice bonus... One would have been quite good, two are gift from Neptune himself!

1939 is over. Poland is firmly in Germany's hands. A few weeks ago, the Danish government protested the presence of a large amount of German troops at their border, but the German ambassador in Copenhagen replied that they were there for a normal training exercice. However, last week, a journalist of the Politiken revelated with serious sources that an invasion of the country had been planed for October but postponed due to bad weather. It seems that the Wehrmacht was worried that they could not reach Copenhagen in time before British or French troops could be sent in, entrenching themselves and taking advantage of the inevitable bad weather to be a thorn in Germany's north. In the Atlantic, the U-boats are having a good hunt, but nothing that could be considered life threatening yet for the British economy.

An opportunity presented itself mi-april in tern of weather even tough OKH was not prepared to act until another 2 weeks. After much debate, the order was given to attack Belgium and rush to the French border by the South. All simulation showed that Brussels would be easy to take.

Disaster! Despite all the simulations, everything when sour. And bad decisions were taken to correct other... bad decisions. Attacks in Eastern Belgium were not done properly and fell short! By trying to compensate for the shortfall, it was decided to attack the Netherlands too, but the available troops were overestimated, leaving all in all two armored corps at a very high risk even before engaging the Allies! Panic sets in in Berlin!

OKH received both good news and bad news from the front. The goods news were that the Allies did not manage to take advantage of the situation and both corps survived. However the weather changed shortly after that and now rain paralyzes the front, therefore extending the dangerous situation for another two weeks possibly.

German tanks south of Brussels tried to disengaged themselves, but to no avail due to the rain. The bad weather might help that corps to withhold another two weeks, but nothing is certain. German troops are holding their breath!

Early May, the rain continues. The spearhead German armored corps is still stuck in a dangerous position but should hold for a little while, hopefully. Little progress is made due to the weather but the Luftwaffe is poised to soon receive more modern equipment that will come in handy in 2 to 4 weeks.

Further South, Italy seems to be preparing for war. However, rumors has it that it might be reconsidering it in view of the German situation in Belgium. The Duce is rumored to have said that he is not sure anymore if Germany is still a serious military power. Regardless, the Regia Aeronautica activated its fist air group specialized in naval warfare. Work is underway to provide it as soon as possible with more modern weaponry and aircrafts.

The XIX armored corps is probably out of danger, but now OKH has to deal with the unexpected : the whole British expeditionary force in Belgium. A British corps, reinforced with an anti-tank regiment, replaced the Belgian forces in Brussels itself. This does not bode very well for a fast advance into France. Lets see if this problem can be made into an opportunity?

OKH original plan was to have crossed the Somme by early June. Needless to say that this failed miserably du to the premature attack in early April and now attention must turn West to deal with the British flank. At least the Dutch will not be in the way anymore.

Brussel in Allied hand was too much of a nuisance. It both threaten the German flank into France and reduced the invading corridor too much. Order was taken to take it and it was. Another attempts on Antwerp failed however. OKH had predicted that by late June Paris would be in sight, and French troops in disarray. Instead the Battle for France in barely begining…

2nd Half of July. German troops exhausted and Luftwaffe's bombers in bad shape after the "incident of April". Slow grinding into France. OKH not sure if it can sustain it.

And two weeks latter, we can see a small breakthrough in the North-West. But too little, too late, and not really in the right sector. OKH is afraid this might be leading into a repeat of the dreaded WWI scenario.

At the end of September, British corps are holding the Somme. Exhausted German armors are trying to bypass but will fall short of Paris before the weather turns for the worse.

With the coming of the rain, the German high command states a coup in Berlin and overthrows the government for "irresponsible adventurism endangering the Nation". An immediate cease-fire is ordered. The rest will be in the diplomat's hands...

Apologies to those following the AAR. I goofed-up in April with a big mistake that I could not recover in time from and obviously the game is not worth continuing. Even if France falls in 1941, chances are that Germany will not survive pass 1943 in the shape it is now. On the good side, Italy is doing quite well...
