Unit stats.

If a unit is in combat with a hard unit like a tank, does it use the Hard ratings (both ways) or the Tank ratings? Likewise, if we have Tank ratings, why is the Hard category even necessary?

The manual isn't clear on this point, doesn't even mention Tank ratings.

If you are attacking or defending against a Hard unit you use your Hard attack and defence score. The other side uses whatever stat apples to you, so if you're Mechanised then they are using their Light Armour stat.

Tanks are not Hard, they're Tanks. Front-line infantry (e.g. Corps and Armies) are Hard. Garrisons and other miscellaneous second-line infantry are Soft.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it does, thanks. I simply assumed Hard was all armored/mechanized, and Soft all of the various kinds of Squishy Infantry.

Opens another can of worms: are the said infantry classifications hard-coded? My issue is that I expect Inf. Divisions to go toe to toe against Inf. Corps (and other frontline units), but if that unit slot is determined to be "soft" then I may have to reclassify some units.

Correct, all the classifications are currently hard coded.
