I tried searching the forum but the best results I got were a decade old and referenced many things I don't need to know about. My search terms are apparently at the level of a three year old!
So, my question is this.
When I, as Allies, are bombarded in ground combat by the Japanese, I get a combat report telling me about Japanese losses. Very rarely do I get any information about my losses. Mainly from the Chinese theatre.
How do I know the Japanese losses when they bombarded me? What casualties could they have suffered? Some are quite severe, like 65 cas including 5 Guns destroyed and 3 disabled.
Is this some spook like system where I get feed back from local Int elements of what guns exploded or whatever? Any why would their bombardment cause casualties to their non-gun elements? Or is it assumed that I will counter-bombard and these are the believed casualties?
The Japanese have been bombarding Akyab for 6 months now and I have rarely had a combat report that tells me I have suffered casualties while every Japanese bombardment causes them casualties!

They were subject to counter-battery fire.

Allies usually have lot better artillery, except Chinese.

Thus, I wish AI Japanese would not use that unless superior, they just suffer losses and enemy gains experience.

Forcing counter bombardments by bombarding, along with aerial bombing forcing the use of AA guns in response are tried and true techniques for forcing a defender to burn supply.

Both attack types also provide unseen, unreported results that are extremely important. Both attack types, regardless of whether, or not, they are causing reported casualties cause the following effects:

Suppression of recovery of and decreases in Morale.
Suppression of recovery of and increases in Fatigue.
Suppression of recovery of and increases in Disruption.

These are extremely important factors in determining the fitness of your troops to engage in land combat.

This is why it can be very important to maintain daily bombardments even when they
don't appear to be yielding actual casualties.

You can get an idea for how effective this is by monitoring those stats on your own units who are suffering daily bombardments and air raids.

In general, having longer ranged or heavier artillery is an advantage in artillery duels. The Japanese have a limited amount of very heavy artillery - up to 350 mm (13.8") but they tend to use that at the point of their deepest thrust, or against the most fortified bases. The US 155mm M1918 GPF, 155mm M1A1, and 155mm Long Tom seem to be very good at counter battery fire because of their range and accuracy.

The Soviets get Artillery Divisions (in Babes based mods) capable of slaughtering everything in their path.

True - I've tried them out, but few people get Soviet activation so they miss the fun!

Okay
I understand the counter bombardment argument. And I understand that I get no casualties because I am probably bigger and dug in better and his artillery is crap!
But why am I being told the enemies casualties? How would I know them? They are, after all, some klicks away deep in the jungle. How do I now I have caused 65 casualties including 2 non-combat destroyed and 1 engr destroyed and 6 disabled? I can live with 3 guns destroyed as there were probably secondary explosions that the ctr-battery Int staff observed.

Because the enemy soldiers are chivalrous and their commander sent a messenger with the information, to congratulate your artillerists for their precision.

It’s a game, we get information we wouldn’t receive in reality. Like, when a submarine is sunk, how would the GHQ know it, and even more know which escorts attacked and dropped DC’s ? Suspend your disbelief, and put that information on the brilliance of your spotters and spies.

Indeed.

Thus I wish AI would be bit "smarter" in use of artillery..alas..it is what it is.

Bombardment is very useful in situation where you have artillery superiority but not evough AV to assault.

Bombing troops reveals their units when unit patches are hurled in the air! Enemy aircraft ops losses on the way home are determined when the pilots radio your side to curse you for doing them in!

Or maybe it's just Cap Mandrake's "M&M Enterprises" selling secrets to both sides...

No, it is the Acme company selling things to Wiley E. Coyote who does not know that the company is owned by the Road Runner's relatives . . .
