Still playing Guadalcanal, but this also happened regularly in TMW and CS when I was playing them. Catalina sighting reports that seem off. Japanese ships all over, 10 here, 4 there, 10 there...often way south in Guadalcanal, far south of Noumea, or along the Australian coast at Sydney, or here there and everywhere. Then nothing ever materialises. So. Are these sighting reports meant to be taken as gospel, or does their accuracy depend on various things (pilot experience?)? Anyone got a quick answer? Thanks!

Naval Search was in real life very uncertain art. Planes frequently reported enemy in wrong places and with wrong composition. That time they didn't have GPS yet, so sometimes planes would be wildly away from predicted position.

Pilot experience and Naval Search skill helps, but Fog of War is always there. Often many TF reports are just submarines etc.

When you are watching replay , reports will show up at bottom left , if they are blue they are fake

Much of the spotting of enemy ships & subs by your aircraft seen in Operations Report is totally wrong. I rely more on the enemy ship/sub icons found on the map after the turn replay. The spotting of enemy aircraft by your ships & subs in the Operations Report is much more accurate. Another unreliable source of intel is "radio traffic" coming from some odd place at sea.
