Hello,

Perhaps someone can help me.

Some of the really clever scenario designers have added the teletype machine sound of paper being ripped off from the machine when a message is coming in (telex.mp3).

How is that done? Is it a lua code? If so, what is it, and where is it located? If not, can you tell me how to do it?

Thanks

Doug

Attachments + some simple LUA.

Add the attachment.
Grab the associated guid with that specific attachment once attached, then use.

ScenEdit_UseAttachmentOnSide (attachmentGUID,sidename)

ScenEdit_PlaySound('telex.mp3') is what your looking for.

Shouldn't be a need for any attachments or anything since the Telex.mp3 file is already in the game sound folder.

Rory N has another script in his scenarios that does radio chirps but if you just looking for the telex sound you don't need it.

Kushan (and KnightHawk),

Thanks for responding.

I have noticed it in several scenarios. EDC is the one that I have been exploring and using as a reference (sample) guide. I know very little about Lua (as you know <lol>) and thus far my efforts have failed. I'll keep at it. It's sort of a challenge. <G>

Thanks again.

Doug

Kushan is correct,
I wanted to cover custom sounds, but your right I didn't notice the one in question was actually a built in one.

You're not planning on inserting the obligatory contemporary military/spy movie *beepity* *beepity" *beepity* text are you? Please say it isn't so?

I think the sound of a 9.6k baud modem would be better.

You are really smart, I always value your opinion, and I can usually keep up with whatever it is that you are talking about. But, not this time, as I am way lost.

Unfortunately, I believe that I am going to need to have Captain Obvious to come and spell it out for me. <G>

Shouldn't be a need for any attachments or anything since the Telex.mp3 file is already in the game sound folder.

Rory N has another script in his scenarios that does radio chirps but if you just looking for the telex sound you don't need it.

Just to amplify on this, you can put *any* .mp3 file in the [Command Main Directory]\Sound\Effects and then use the ScenEdit_PlaySound() function to play that sound. It does have to be in the folder on loading the game, however.

Replacing standard sound files with your own is a good way of modding the game; additionally any .mp3 files in the ...\Sound\Music folder will be used for in-game music, so you can supplement the Command OST with the Imperial March or the Benny Hill theme if the mood strikes you.

Just gotta watch it during full-updates as your modded default sounds's can get overwritten (ie have backups of your changed files). Bit me a few times in the past. :)
