Hello everyone!

This will be my last scenario for this year. It's been ready for quite some time, actually. It is the scenario European Diplomacy Remastered.

Right out of the box AT and ATG come with a scenario that was near and dear to me, called European Diplomacy. It basically was a fight over Europe, with 9 different factions. Several different options made it so that the game could be played with less, powers, and with various different starting options.

I tried to remake it here in this scenario, where you once again will be pitted against 8 other nations, to conquer Europe. But unlike the previous old version, this one has Weather, Officers, TO&E and evem the Model Designer. In other words, this is as complete and update as is currently possible.

I wasn't all alone in my efforts though. I had some help. First of all I needed Officers to add to the new powers. There exist no Turkish officers for instance, in any of the ANewDawn masterfiles. So I asked Ormand for help, and luckily he was able to make some very nice graphics for all the nations I asked for. Also he was so nice as to explain to me how the Model Designer worked (it's the one that lets you build custom tanks).

Cpdeyoung also deserves some of the credit, as he helped me playtest this, inbetween waiting for turns for GD1938v3. We both enjoyed it a lot. Gary Childress, provided some graphics, for unit-type, that has graphics so good you wouldn't know it wasn't part of the base game!

Finally my thanks go to Vic and Tweber, who made this all possible. Vic for making AT and then ATG, and Tweber for making the scenario that his one is inspired by.

The Scenario can be found here: https://www.vrdesigns.net/scenario.php?nr=308

Now I am not expecting you to take my word for it, that this is a great scenario, probably one of the best I made, so here are some screenshots: (first the Strategic Map)

Officers, well, there are a lot of different ones. I believe the stock game has 30 different first and last names that can be combined. I expanded on those lists, so there now are more than 100 different ones, some even with 200. This should make sure you never have the same ones twice.

The above officer has no experience yet. This one does, and shows that I kept all the features of the officers in the original ANewDawn file. The only exception being that they now show what month they level and are bought in, instead of turn.

Here is the option screen that you can choose from at the start of the game.

Most of the options should be self-explanatory, but if they are not, they are all mentioned in the introduction for the Scenario.

Basically there are three choices you can make that change the borders of the map. WW1 Likeness, WW2 Likeness, and I guess you could call default the third. Each of these are different, and I won't go into details, but I can mention that the WW1 Likeness makes the borders, so they feel like World War 1, hence the name. WW2 Likeness does something similar, just for a different war. Finally the default can be used (set to automatically) and it gives each nation the samesque starting conditions (except geography and that USSR starts with more resources).

Start at war means that everyone starts at war against each other. 2 Round Breather does exactly what it does in European Diplomacy, that is it makes nobody able to Declare War until 2 rounds have passed. (Great for making sure you are prepared for an assault... yours or theirs). High Unit Density allows for more production, and thus more units to be on the map at the same time. Limit AI Factories, makes sure that the AI builds fewer factories, than if this option is not chosen. Unique researches allows nations who in ANewDawn have special unit types available have them in this scenario too (Rangers for Britain, Super Heavy Tanks for Germany, etc.)

The last two options are perhaps a bit more exotic. Alliance Victory allows an alliance to win, that's it. No of course it isn't there is more. Combined with Historic Alliances will allow the AI to form up an alliance at start of the nations that there were at the time of WW1 or WW2, depending on what you've chosen of these two. You can control these alliances too. but you need to control every member of the alliance to be able to play. No allying with the AI. Sorry.

The Alliances for WW1 are Germany, Balkans and Turkey (The Central Powers) and the other alliance is France, Britain and Italy(the Entente). Russia is not in the Entente, but fights on its own. The Alliances for the WW2 are Germany, Italy and the Balkans (Axis) and the other alliance is that of Britan and France (The allies) and again Russia is alone. Nations not mentioned in the above alliances, are of course free of them, but if attacked will join the other alliance.

Ready for some warfare? Then what are you waiting for! Download it now, find it in the Folder REMASTERED in your scenario folder, once unpacked...

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thank you,

Thank you.

This one is fun, as only beating up on an AI can be. Of course it helps if you enjoy getting beat up too!

Seriously, the nations have very different issues. Choosing a nation, or an alliance, will make a big difference in the play. War gets going quickly, and you must defend those "peaceful" borders.

This is a wonderful gift.

Chuck

question: I was expecting to see updated models from Gary here, instead of the stock models from the game. I had thought this was there since Ernie gave a shout out to Gary. Other than this, the scenario looks like it will be fun.

Interesting...but where is the diplomacy--other than that that is out of the barrel of a gun?

I used his SP Artillery SFT. It looks, as described in the text above, so similar to the ones in ANewDawn that you would hardly know the difference. I didn't use the Gary Childress updated models, though they too look good, for some simple reasons. First I wanted it to look as much as ANewDawn as possible. Secondly, I wanted it to be small enough (in size on the disk) that it could be uploaded by me, without bothering Vic to do it. I managed that, just barely. Thirdly, I am not sure he has made graphics for Turkish, Scandinavian or Balkan specific people.

The original scenario, that inspired this one, had the name European Diplomacy, as can be read above. I assume Tweber used this name because of the map, and his original idea, not to have any AI player. I expanded on the idea by making AI possible. There is a boardgame called Diplomacy, which is in Europe too, and I always assumed this was the basis for his scenario. I think that if you are more than one player, then it could easily be a game of diplomacy between them, which side gets what etc. I did not use a few ideas he had, simply because I found the alliance system already made those possible. Among them was a card granting a player a standard unit, to another player. There were similar cards I did not include.

Bug Found and fixed. Ormand was kind enough to spend some time pointing me in the right direction. New version in the scenario bank. When downloaded, it will be the same ATZIP name as the previous version, and it will unpack on top of the previous version.
