RE: BLITZ HEX&CHIT WARGAME ENGINE
Interesting. I downloaded the file, unzips fine. Reading the manual text file is recommended for anyone curious.
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

RE: BLITZ HEX&CHIT WARGAME ENGINE
The manuals differs slightly for each era, eg bows have less ranged fire than winchesters, or romans cant attack as far as WW2 soldiers, but mostly the manuals are simular.
thankyou for downloading, and giving a comment.

RE: BLITZ HEX&CHIT WARGAME ENGINE
Hi,
Nice effort, and can be a solid base.
I found a way to seriously improve the graphic quality of the game and before going further and eventually creating a mod, I have a few questions:
- Is it possible to increase the resolution of the game (for example that the counters are 100 x 100 pixels instead of 50 x 50 pixels)?
- Is it possible to have a map larger than 17 x 10 hexagons?
- What is the level of artificial intelligence on the tactical level?
- What programming language did you use?
Keep on going !

OK i will try an answer some of your Questions
- Is it possible to increase the resolution of the game (for example that the counters are 100 x 100 pixels instead of 50 x 50 pixels)? No its one to one no stretching except the TEM display on the right is an enlarged hex, but fullscreen can have a bigger looking screen but the only stretching is the resolution of full screen
- Is it possible to have a map larger than 17 x 10 hexagons? No, but you can stack 8 chits in a hex, I started out with this and it became to difficult to alter later
- What is the level of artificial intelligence on the tactical level? took a min to think of what you need to know about the map(chits are more complex). the A.I. is very aggressive and you have options to make it more strong or weaker I created the A.I. to use the phases so it only has a small job to do at any phase ,also the A.I on a map level uses TEMs reduce firepower , .but each chit has its own move rate you set to match the map terrain line of sight is really important its pin sharp(but be carefull with LOS not to block a hex from firing, instead block hex sides). The A.I. prioritises your ranged units, leaders & heroes add to the power of attacks, groups can make a big atack, a stack can seperate and attack 8 different hexes, the A.i. dosnt cheet it has the same options as you
- What programming language did you use? BltzMax
PS: thankyou for asking, it shows you know your fodder, I do hope you can improve it, sounds really interesting that you have an idea on this
sorry but i have not looked at all this for a while Im tying myself up in knots trying to remember everything ,so im revisiting the details

ok I put my map making app online for you, seems you may have a use for it, you make a map then use the LOS tool(in the wargame app itself) to paste lineofsight blockers(place Los blockers are best on hex edges , as they block los from attacker and defender hexes the attcker traces a line from centre to centre dots ).
the map will put the hexes in the exact correct place for you, you can even hex over a photo etc...
use the Hotseat version of the game to setup a scenario and save with i think the S key, and look in the module folder for scenario text files , the instructions are in the game
the mapmaker might be of use to you if your moding , its old but does the job

RE: BLITZ HEX&CHIT WARGAME ENGINE
i have added a couple of screenshots to the begining of the thread that expain a little about advantages and disadvantages in game setup, this sets The A.I. or player to be easy or hard. the differrent eras have further restrictions on one side or the other, so you need to check each eras manual. I created the A.I. to use the phases so it only has a small job to do at any phase and it dosnt cheat.

I assume you are the author and code developer for this project? I like the idea of a wargame engine that allows folks to create hexagon maps, define terrain effects and combat results, set orders of battle, etc. And your game allows unit stacking (+1). What are the long-range plans to expand the map beyond the 17x10 limit?
I have long been advocating for someone to develop simple wargames for adaptations of classic Avalon Hill boardgames like Afrika Korps, Russian Campaign, etc. Or develop a wargame engine for others to use to do this. Blitz has potential. [&o]

Thankyou For your comments , 17x10 limit may be possible to increase ,I have gad to process in my head for a while BUT I have no near future plan to do so. it would likly alter the game so much it would be a new project

RE: BLITZ HEX&CHIT WARGAME ENGINE
Was this a one man project? Straight away it looks well done from the graphics and interface, from the screenshots at least. How much was made by yourself and not based on something already there?
The last question i realize may trigger a longer explanation but i just throw it out here. Nice this.
