A long time since I last played. 2016. I will play a few smaller scenarios before hitting the big campaign.

Question: Have there been any updates to Mr. Mac's Ironman (Japan AI) since this time? Also if anyone can suggest a mod that has a good Japan AI?

I'm so far out of it, what was old is new again. Many thanks in advance!

Andymac recently posted sets of AI modules that improve the scripted opponent's performance.

I am not sure exactly where they are posted, hopefully someone has a link handy.

It all depends on what exactly you mean by "good Japan AI"

WITP never had AI even in its simple sense (weighted function for strategic choice, an array of tactical clichés, past performance accounting). What it has is an array of scripts that fire up given some trigger plus some hardcoded nearest vicinity reactions. It will always have nothing more than that. Given the fact, you can still play an enjoyable game against AI if you are aware of its limitations and not press those points. Ironman is enjoyable cause Japan has a bazillion of assets to battle with, so the scripts will always find the necessary support material.

Thanks Ian R and GetAssista. When I left off at 2016, my impression was that Ironman most probably had the better AI, understanding that the System placed limitations on what it could achieve. It gave me many surprises and challenges, and was fun to play. Even with that, I would do things to greatly limit the pace of the Allies in the first several months to let the AI run its course.

I did a quick looksee at the Mods link and that last update was 2012(?) but not sure if that was accurate. Andy made an Ironman for the Babes but not sure if that was an upgrade from the original Ironman. Oh well, I'll figure something out before I start the Campaign.

Thanks again!

PS. I believe I found a recent update to Ironman Japan: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4694832 from 2019.
