Hey wondering if anyone has an answer to this.

When setting up something like an AEW patrol mission, how come the A/C assigned to that particular mission when launched plots a course to the FURTHEST away reference point from the base launched from, instead of the nearest?

I assume this is a 'support' mission...I think it plots to the first RP point in the course list as the starting point to fly the course from.

in this case I am referring to a Patrol mission, with sensors set to activate upon reaching the patrol area. So, in the scenario as I describe, the a/c in question would keep it's radar off and ONLY begin emitting upon reaching the farthest point away and then turning back towards the closest RP. I have my mission set to a 2-point patrol mission for my early warning a/c.

Ahh.. a line patrol. Normally for a patrol area, it just randomly picks a point in the area to go to. With a line, it does sort the distance between the unit and the two RPs, and sets course to the one furthest away.
Has always been this way.

The patrol missions are categorised by type so as to determine behaviour, but AEW isn't one of them. Instead create a support mission which tracks along a course given by waypoints (line or polygon), and use the other mission settings to determine behaviour such as EMCON. So for AEW you'd set radar to on, and maybe set active emissions only on-station if that's what you want. The A/C initially heads towards the first waypoint in the list and then sequences the others in turn.
