What would happen if you took murmansk? would the lend lease aid not reach russia?

how do you know when to start raiding that route, by the way. i've burned a lot fuel with my big surface ships but yet to intercept a convoy(it's dec 1940, been at war with russia for about 4 months)

finally, what's the best strat to take leningrad? it seems an endless casualty sink.

1. It would route through Arkhangelsk

2. Turn on the Trade Convoy overlay (hotkey T)

3. No idea on Leningrad

i have the convoy overlay route on. and i've periodically parked big fleets on it. i just never intercept.

makes me wonder if that supply route doesn't start till later?

If you take that location they can't get lend lease in the winter.

Also want to notice that Arkhangelsk will be frozen nearly all the winter, so unless the railroad from Murmansk to Yaroslave is open , no Lend Lease will reach the URSS from the Artic Convoy Route.

What happens if you cut off both Murmansk and Archangel. Do the Russians still get lend lease?

Dont think so, unless you have Persia in allied hands and a valid railroad route from the Persian Gulf port to the URSS capital.

I don't believe either Persia or the Trans-Siberian Railroad from (off-map) Vladivostock provide lend-lease to Russia (although historically they provided more than half of all lend-lease to Russia). I think it may be a play balance thing. However, I had assumed the lend-lease went through Archangel until Alvaro's comment above. It is easy to cut the rail line from Murmansk. That said, I believe that my opponent still gets points through, whether AI or PvP. I would need to take the time to do a hot seat game to see.

This was all discussed in an earlier thread about LL. Persia route does not work, and LL from USA to Russia doesn't work either execpt as a special event. Hopefully both will work in WP2.

USLL via Vlad are events that happen every so often. They can't be interrupted.

Persia doesn't exist and it was pretty inconsequential anyways.

I should add an event for it.

If Persia doesn't allow the allies to sen LL to the URSS, then maybe you could have a thought about the invasion of Persia by the soviets. At moment, in a given moment, computer URSS will get an event in wich she is granted Persia by conquer. But if that conquest is not going to help the LL effort, maybe you can consider to let the computer choose if she wants it in the hands of the UK.

Anyways, this is a minor relevance issue, and in best case situation should be put at the bottom of the list of "things to improve", becuse human players don't get that event.

Persia is still worth taking for the oil and the VP but it really ought to be an alternate LL route.

I think also if you have multiple LL routes there ought to be a cap on their carrying capacity, so that in order to push the maximum possible LL you have to use more than one route.

It appears that the USSR still gets aid through Archangelsk even if frozen by blizzard. So what value is Murmansk then?

Unless something went wonky it does swap routes. I tested this 1.5 years ago.

It may swap to Archangelsk if the rail line to Murmansk is cut, but it doesn't swap back, and the swap doesn't matter if Archangelsk can get convoys even in blizzard.

You probably have damaged rail somewhere. It is a pathfinding routine so it should follow the available path.

I think maybe I'm not making myself clear. The rail was indeed damaged, but later it was repaired, and the route didn't swap back to Murmansk from Archangelsk.

The second issue is that Archangelsk can receive convoys even if frozen by blizzard, which I thought wasn't supposed to be possible (and it would make keeping the rail line open to Murmansk pointless).

Since WarPlan doesn't allow the use of the Persian LL route, maybe just consider the supply provided through the frozen port as representing the other Led-Lease routes like Persia and Vladivostock, as together those other routes supplied more than 40% of the delivered lend-lease.
It was impossible to stop all supply to Russia during WWII anyways.

The problem with that is it's inconsistent with existing rules regarding frozen ports (specifically in regards to Sweden/Norway), and I don't think it's good for gameplay to leave the Soviets with no incentive to defend the rail line to Murmansk, or for the Axis to try to cut it.

It shouldn't go through. Only blizzard stops it. I will double check

Well, this is annoying, because I had cut the Murmansk rail line in my current game and was was feeling all clever about that going into winter.

Time to pull back the Finns.
