That would be odd! No messages about launch of the sub during the turn? I am thinking the mini-sub was launched and retrieved during the same turn because it was in the same hex as the mother sub, and was out of ammo after its attack.

There is a text file created of all the text that scrolls by in the bottom left window during the turn. It should be stored with other turn files like the combat report text. That might show launch and retrieval.

Submarine attack near Pearl Harbor at 183,102

Japanese Ships
SSX Ha-8

Allied Ships
AO Platte, Torpedo hits 1, heavy fires

AO Platte is sighted by SSX Ha-8
SSX Ha-8 launches 2 torpedoes at AO Platte

You guys should know better. SSXs do not like being called "midget subs". They prefer to be called "endurance challenged".

How about sub-subs.

No, nothing about launching. Also they were not on patrol, I'd set the hex as a destination.

You can't set mini-subs to react but you can patrol a hex. Maybe the crew was getting ready to launch and fired the torpedoes at a target that just happened by.

I looked at the screenshot again and it shows the mini nearly out of fuel, so that means it launched and traveled on its own to make the attack. Strange that the game would not show that in a report somewhere.

Those subs only start with 84 fuel.

That's a British small submarine, I believe.

Later models have much greater endurance, IIRC. That may have some bearing in this-what was the date?

Is that what that number is? It's so hard to read I took it as a single digit. Even with my magnifying glass it is a blur. So I guess it is red because it is using the mother sub's port as it's home base, rather than the mum-sub itself.

The date is 23 Dec 41 fuel turn before before (pic) was 84 after 84. But that does not mean it didn't launch, just it did not move out of the hex.

Just looking at the TF it had 70% torps before the attack, and only 10% after. The ship screen confirms that I-16 is almost out of torps now so both fired at the target but only the mini-sub hit but there is nothing to indicate that I-16 did fire.

Note that the turn before I-16 fired at a diffent target and which is why the TF only had 70% left this turn. This is shown in the ops report.
