I suppose radar for ground vehicles and units only makes a bit less sense, but I think it'd be nice to have some kind of semi-mobile or immobile asset or unit that I could plop on a mountain somewhere and provides limited recon in a number of hexes surrounding it. The value could increase with tech upgrades.

Do you read manual? Each hex is 200 x 200 km. It's quite a big distance for even aircraft detection radar. And ground-based radars in surface mode shouldn't be able to see anything past their own hex.

Wait for aircraft update/DLC to get a long-range recon :)

It officially is, but some things in the sandbox behave quite strangely when adhering strictly to the 200 km rule, such as the movement speeds of any non-foot unit.

Considering some of the other futuristic technologies present, I don't think a technobabble detection station would conflict with any lore. It's not that vital an addition, I reckon, but it'd certainly help me deal with irritating alien wildlife. I'll have to settle for putting a dozen spies everywhere.

For reference, [1.04b7] Remove the 200km/Hex Absolute Value.
