IMHO Moscow requires either serious elimination of large numbers of units, diversion of panzers and elite infantry from Leningrad, and/or aggressive play.

There was a fashion for a while to "get Moscow first" meaning send 3 panzer groups that way and forget about Leningrad. But with Moscow captured early turn the three panzer groups in a massive left hook to get Leningrad before blizzard. That fashion was lost with the changes from one of the patches made it less attractive. But perhaps worth looking at it again?

The paradigm at the moment seems to be make an absolute priority for Leningrad. This AAR might be an example of the firt three turns of that https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4639282

Similarly the soviet paradigm is to put the effort into stopping them first. For example https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4309050

If you do capture Leningrad early you get a major supply boost in the north, can bring out the blizzar immune Finns to defen the north an shorten your lines. And the sudden surplus in troops can be turned on Moscow.

Does that make for a Moscow '42?

In most games so far it has been Moscow 41, but a close run thing. Some games that ran into 42 got Moscow easily in the summer. But the bottom line decision behind it is that in WitE if you had to choose between getting Moscow or Leningrad you would prefer Leningrad.

That might not match what you think should be true historically. But given the game mechanics of WitE1 it is.

How many rivers and swamps did they cross? Is there another route in which they could have crossed fewer? if you make sure to clear that one at the start then all of 1stP could cross the Daugava if that is what you wanted with them.

Was wondering also, is running FBD3 through the pripet a good choice? Otherwise that entire region is lost for transport.

rail through pripyat is a very bad choice. Far better to rail the FBD north or south and double them up to go fast through the Baltic rail repair zone and out of Rumania and then later repair from north to south an vice versa. See https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4317692 and look at their suggested railway map listed on past one for a better way

Will, FBD3 is right near BL. But I did not want to have to expend all that resources to take the brave soviet soldiers defending the fort. Prefer to bypass. but doing that, rail work cannot begin in that area.

thanks

I mean what we are saying is do not repair rail there at all. Rail the FBD to near Kaunas and repair the rail there instead.
