Hi all,

The game seems to take ages to start up, and almost hangs when loading a scenario. Generating a scenario took ages. Any ideas? Is this just me or is anyone else experiencing this?

If/when this happens, launch Task Manager to see what process(es) is (are) bogging the system down. Usually it is anti-malware software kicking into high gear, but often it is some Windows service gone temporarily haywire.

For instance, on one of my CS auto-test systems, for some reason the Windows Antimalware Service Executable has gone bonkers, driving CPU usage up to near 100%.

In other instances, especially if a system has been down, shut off for a time, Windows will "phone home" to Microsoft for this or that obscure purpose, driving disk usage to a persistent 100%.

Occasionally it is some other non-Windows culprit, like your anti-virus software typically. Beware also of having your browser open with too many tabs, one or more of which may be hogging CPU due to some buggy JavaScript or something.

And so on and so forth.

Windows is a multi-taking OS, with dozens and dozens of background services. You never know when things will go crazy on you.

Usually but not always, a system reboot will solve issues such as these.

It seems you were right, something seems to have clicked into place and it is running much faster now. Thanks for the response.

I do have a last question, I also still have the original Divided Ground Middle East and am desperate to find a way to play the game without having the CD in the drive (the CD is having reading trouble and is very temperamental). Is there any way I an get something from you guys that will turn off the need for the CD in the drive. I want to say that I almost bought the new version just so that I could legitimize my request for this to be solved on the old version. I have included a photo of my original CD. I had a hard drive failure and lost almost all my games and serial numbers, and I had most of my CD's lost and am trying to rebuild my former collection.

Who can help me? Any contacts at Matrix in the CS camp that you know that might be able to help me complete my collection? I have pretty much every game and every mod for the Campaign Series and will get the Vietnam one as soon as I can but my collection will not be complete without being able to play Divided Ground without that temperamental CD. Damn. I need a Rich Hamilton type guy to step in and make it happen. Anyone?

Hi Ash,

Maybe check with Mike Amos (Warhorse). Send him a PM or e-mail. Mike has all kinds of cool stuff from years gone by. Perhaps he has the old Divided Ground that doesn't need the CD to run.

I remember there was a Divided Ground one could run that didn't need the CD. So that would eliminate your temperamental drive issue. I have the old Divided Ground Vietnam that doesn't need a CD to run. If Mike has the regular Divided Ground, it would be a pretty big file but could easily be transferred by Drop Box.

I have the old Divided Ground on my super old Windows 98 machine but it needs the CD so I'm no help, sorry. When Campaign Series Middle East came out I never went back to the old Divided Ground.

Good Luck and cheers!

John (aka Big Ivan at the blitz too).
