Is it possible for an off map sinking of a damaged ship? In all my games I have never seen an off map sinking happen but I am creeping heavily damaged BB from DEI all the way to east coast and the damage control failing messages are alarming! I always assumed making it off map was safe.

Interesting question. I've had the same alarming messages too. What is the BB's current system/flotation damage levels?

Historically, Glorious was sunk "off map".

If you see the messages but do not see any change in damage numbers, then here is your answer

Yes it is possible

In my first PBEM, I lost Repulse off map, it was trying to reach Capetown

I, too, have lost Repulse off map. You don’t get any of the normal wear and tear of normal movement, but you can sink from damage control failures.

You need to fix the system damage before you leave the map. That way the pumps work.

Thanks for the authoritative answer. Mississippi should have sank in Java sea...98 flotation after 9 long lance hits. I had knocked system down to a reasonable number and flotation down to 52%. I didn't fix her in Capetown or Colombo because yards full with higher priority iron.
