Prypolitis 1-14, 2014
This is a small scale scenario with a lot of fun. The scenario designer rated this scenario as very hard. It is probably just due to my luck, I experienced some challenge but able to finish it with a triumph.
At the beginning of the scenario Zulu 0630, I changed the loadouts of several AC. A-7 at Araxos AB, I changed them to AGM-65 , 4x F-16CJ Blk 50 at Nea Anchialos AB carry AGM-88 HARM. Finally, 2x F-16CJ Blk 52 at Souda AB changed to CAP setting, another 2 changed to SPICE 1000 (MK83) heavy loadout. The reason for these changes is I want to increase my stand-off strike capability, at the same time slightly increase the number of AIM-120C to off set the OPFOR’s superior BVR threat. Due to these changes, I am going to kick off the strike at H+6 hours or H+7 . Hopefully, I can strike when OPFOR’s CAP running low on fuel, but first I got to observe the OPFOR’s patrol pattern. So, I asked one AEW plane took off, station near Athens, 2x Mirage 2000 assigned to AEW’s protection.
Later, 18min into the scenario, two OPFOR’s F-16CJ Blk 50 came out of nowhere. I was running the game at highest speed so I didn’t react this threat on time. I watched in horror as an Air combat commenced. Although the MICA’s final PoH was at 40%~50%, I was lucky as both two MICA found their target. On the other hand , I lost my precious AEW plane and one Mirage 2000. It’s not a good exchange rate, I was also very shock to see the OPFOR was able to challenge me in my territory. So I decided to inactive all mission until the strike package ready.
Then 6 hours into the scenario at Zulu 1230, time to lock and load. The two pair of enemy’s CAP have been patrolling above their Surface group since the beginning , they must be very low on fuel.
A-7,and F-4 took off first, 2 min later, F-16s at Nea Anchialos and Souda got the green light to took off. I set up an assemble area behind Andros island. It has the same distance to all major AFB , so hopefully everyone can arrive there at the same time and commence the strike simultaneously. The transition altitude was set at 100ft to avoid the detection from enemy’s AEW plane at 250nm away. Also, the hills on Andros island can hide my A/C.
At Zulu 1245, my AEW, Mirage strike group and fighter group took off. AEW provided an update on surface 2min later. The four surface contact were still there. I got my lucky day again, OPFOR’s CAP running out of fuel, It seems like that OPFOR don’t have any other assets to replace the lost. Well, prefect timing for a strike. At Zulu 1249, with most of my A/C arrived assemble area , the strike began. 4x Mirage 2000 with Exocet ASM lead the way, they will release the Exocet first. F-16 with HARM follows the Exocets, they will fire HARM as soon as OPFOR turn on their FCR radar. Then another pair of F-16 will release SPICE 1000 at the same time. Hopefully this coordinate strike will overwhelm OPFOR’s air defense. The A-7 and F-4 follow at 20nm behind, they will target anyone survived the first strike. The Sniper XR Pod helped a lot, it quickly ID OPFOR’s vessel so that I can finalize my plan before missile flying.
Zulu 1252, OPFOR tuned FCR radar on, SAM launch detected, it could either target Exocet or F-16. It doesn’t matter. I fired all 8 HARM, originally I planned to fire 4 on F 246 Salihreis, the two Perry class will take 2 HARM each. But for some reason 3 HARM aimed at F 246 Salihreis, 1 heading to the furthest vessel F 240 Yavuz.
F 246 Salihreis was able to intercepted 2 of 3 HARM, but was damaged by the remaining one. There is no way it can stop the four Exocet ASM now. F 240 Yavuz shot down the one HARM without any problem. One of the two Perry intercepted two HARM, the other one intercepted one but heavily damaged by another.
After that, all four OPFOR’s vessel were sink by Exocet and SPICE 1000. Just before the last SPICE 1000 hit the water, an Air battle broke out. Four OPFOR’s F-16 blk 50 get into weapon range. I put F-16 in escort, and also the F-4 and F-16 that finish strike mission into battle position. Their task is to cover the A-7 and Mirage 2000’s RTB. I have number advantage. But enemy got the first shot off because their land based Radar can provide CEC support. While OPFOR lost all four F-16s, I lost 3x F-4 and 1x F-16 Blk 52. A bloody day!
Their sacrifice was not in vain. Everyone got back to base safely. And I got this screen show up: :)
