Russian Set up for the Initiation of Putins War in the Baltics! Right now "Putins War, The Baltic Tsunami, 2020" The Russian area denial capability from Kaliningrad and the Russian Western Military District is just incredible. IMHO the Baltic States are totally indefensible. Any NATO air unit flying over that territory, or trying to reinforce them, is just going to be blown out of the sky! NATO better have some serious SEAD capability there!

I think an interesting thing to do (perhaps in an immediate sequel scenario to this) is to try and evacuate and protect Norwegian naval vessels before they are destroyed by air/missile attacks.

Let me introduce "Putins War Operation Exodus, 2022" June 14-15.

Royal Norwegian Navy and Coast Guard personnel strive to make their vessels under maintenance ready to get underway, concentrating on engineering plants. The remaining, undamaged Norwegian vessels with Royal Navy escorts/aircraft (UK) were to Shepard them to Portsmouth and Liverpool for continued repairs to down sensors and weapons systems. The Royal Norwegian Air Force F-35s, heavily attrited by a week of warfare (combat loses, combat damage and maintenance/spare part issues) would fly top cover with limited RAF support. Putin, wants the two convoys destroyed!

1. Norwegian units have down for maintenance sensors/weapons systems removed. I've learned not to "damage" them as it causes damage to propulsion and other DC systems.
2. Russia has air units that would/could be used for the maritime battle. NATO/Russian SAMS are just there to keep the players honest.
3. No Navigation zones where the Maritime Patrol/Attack aircraft (Backfires) just would not fly due to NATO AAW-CAP.

Launched, but has not yet played in your script, there are several wishes on the Russian side. Not only Su-27Sm but also Su-35 are based in Besovets, there are about 22 of them and about 20 Su-27. In Monchegorsk, besides the Mig-31, there are also Su-24m / mr (they could have been added for reconnaissance). Kuznetsov could have been included, but in some subsequent scenario, in the spirit of a "decisive battle", Kuznetsov was urgently commissioned . To repair it, the shipyard is being reconstructed at the 35 shipyard. There is a possibility that by the age of 22 it can be repaired.

I started version 2.0, here is how it is going so far:
- I managed to save my patrol boats up North by making them hug the coast to break the line of sight of whatever was providing midcourse update to the missile, and they missed (or were headed for something else but since they sank the patrol cutters I think I did well to play hide and sneak)
- I put the weapons on hold so as not to waste AMRAAMs by dubious shots at max range. FOr now I have a very good exchange ratio. The Russians seem to have surged their planes for their alpha strike, so I managed to catch a few of them off guard.
- They did not put up a strong CAP with their PATMAR planes so I downed a few
- I even downed a Mainstay with a low-altitude penetration by a F-35. THe Russian radar at the border can't see low altitude aircraft because they are at a lower elevation than the scandinavian plateau. I almost escape the Mig-31 CAP that I triggered but the F-35 got caught up in the middle of Sweden. At least the pilot ejected in friendly territory.

22h to go with:
SIDE: NATO
===========================================================

LOSSES:
-------------------------------
1x F-35A Lightning II
1x NASAMS II
2x Radar (Coastal ACSR)
1x Radar (GLOBUS II [AN/FPS-129 Have Stare])
2x Radar (RAT-31SL/N SINDRE II)
2x Vehicle (AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel [NASAMS II])
1x W 318 Harstad
1x W 320 Nordkapp

EXPENDITURES:
------------------
3x 40mm/70 Single Bofors Burst [4 rnds]
31x AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM P3I.3
2x Generic Flare Salvo [3x Cartridges, Dual Spectral]
12x MIM-120B NASAMS [AMRAAM]

SIDE: Russia
===========================================================

LOSSES:
-------------------------------
1x A-50U Mainstay A
2x Il-38N May
6x MiG-29K Fulcrum D
5x MiG-31BM Foxhound
14x Su-27SM/SM3 Flanker B
2x Tu-142MZ Bear F Mod 4
1x Tu-22M-3M Backfire C

The F-35 really shines, it can stay over Sweden without getting engaged by the S-400, the Swedes and Finish are getting pretty beat up with their non-stealth planes

PD-50? or there was talk of taking two floating dry docks and merging them?

EDIT: Oh, you launched the scenario! With this COVID, I'm a bit fuzzy ! I thought you meant something had launched out of the dry dock in the image!

quote:

Good stuff, have a call sign/squadron on the SU-35?

quote:

You know I knew that, and actually thought about them and then didn't include them. As I reacall not a lot, like 5 or 8?

quote:

Kuznetsov could have been included, but in some subsequent scenario, in the spirit of a "decisive battle",

So actually, she and Admiral Nakhimov both appeared in the old Command Air and Naval Operations Arctic Tsunami, 2019 scenario, which was the predecessor to this. Unfortunately there is something about that scenario which is incompatible with CMO, but if you have the old game can send you the zip file. The reason Admiral Nakhimov appears, is I assumed she would have completed refit just as the war broke our andwas used by Northern Fleet (because she was ready and couldn't get to Pacific fleet).

quote:

Kuznetsov was urgently commissioned . To repair it, the shipyard is being reconstructed at the 35 shipyard. There is a possibility that by the age of 22 it can be repaired.

Possible but given that Admiral Nakhimov was supposed to be refitted by 2018-19 and that has slipped to 2020 and Pyotr Velikiy is in need of refit. I just don't believe she's ever going to sea again, or if she does (for show) I doubt she flys jets. Yeah, navy's sometimes repair vessels just so someone can't claim a Mission Kill, USN with the USS Ben Franklin for example, but since this appears self inflicted, I think she won't be seen to be worth the effort. IMHO, the Russian fleet has likely seen their last carrier, in favor of more submarines and Admiral Gorshkov-class like frigates. Honestly, if she wasn't a relic of the old Soviet Red Banner Fleet, would Russia really build her today? I know there are carrier models out there but building a model and building the real thing two very separate issues.

Now what might be interesting is if Russia contracted with the PRC to build one of their Type 003s! Sorry but personally I don't see the Sevmash, Shipyard 402 doing great things, because they just haven't delivered to date. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that count

Good strategy, and I gave Norway more AMRAAMS then they will likely have in 2022, and even then they are in short supply.

Hard to set up a good CAP-AAW with the A/I. Seems like you just need a lot of them!

quote:

I have actually watched the A/I do this a couple if times, which I thought was pretty slick on the A/Is part.

The F-35 fairs well, but not invincible. Still against the A/I it does quite well. Wonder how it would do against real pilots?

I thought about restricting the MiG-31's to CAp-AAW in Russia itself but figured they'd let them stray over Finnland and maybe even Sweden.

Thanks for the AAR and I'll look at adding those aircraft.

Yes, I had introduced that two docks will merge into one large one (the process of reconstruction is visible in the photo).

Do you mean the aviation unit number? 159 aviation regiment (my English is not strong, so I don’t know exactly what you call such an alliance).

Russia will almost certainly put Kuznetsov in operation ... for them it is a matter of prestige (the United States and China have a sign and we must have it!), Plus not an unimportant factor in maintaining the readiness of deck pilots, but this is IMHO. But your option with the order from China of their aircraft carrier seems interesting to me.

8h to go and I managed to wipe out the paratrooper assault and sink all of the Russian ships except the Gorshkov. Even if I had to resort to LGB (****ing lasers, man!). The NSM had a weird bug where they would not launch unless the target was radiating.

Also, the Gorshkov was lagging behind the amphibs, making them more vulnerable. Is that intended?

Managed to kill the isolated radars on the Southern side too, that opened the way to bag another AWACS.

I got messages popping up though, that is weird.

If you want to make the scenario more challenging you could switch all the Flankers to loadouts with R-27 IR LR, and use the Fulcrums only to launch Kh-35 U. That would make more sense from the Russian point of view, without IR missiles their planes are sitting ducks for the F-35.

And you could put an exclusion zone around the S400 for the Norwegian side, the AI F-35 tend to come running into the Russian bastion and get shot down.

Also, the Russian side is a bit lacking in Iskanders. With the Backfires loaded with Kitchens it's not really necessary, but still.

Added 22 Su-35S Flankers and 8 Su-24M2 Fencers. Added the 35s to the A/I's AA-CAP and the 24s to the A/Is SEAD Patrol. Human players can do with them as they see fit.

Thanks for he info/correction!

Don't know on the MSN, I don't think they have a ARM capability?

It's on a Sea Control Mission so luck of the draw.

I have had it try to do that myself, were they sort of like ghost pop-ups that disappeared very quickly? Almost looked like an old DOS prompt?

I like it, I did just add 8 Su-24M2 Fencers for SEAD as well.

Actually I was going to go into the WRA and further reduce their engagement range.

I'm not aware of any Iskander Regiments assigned to the Northern Fleet AOR. Have them in the "Putins War, Baltic Tsunami" scenario I'm working on, but gone over he known Russian units and didn't see any up there. If you know of one please give me a location.

Thanks for the suggestions/help.

I posted all five (5) Putin's War Scandinavia scenarios yesterday. So they are in the Ready Folder. That doesn't mean they can't be adjusted but I figured with a month of no activity play test interest in this one had waned. So all five are posted (in one Zip), but if you have any suggestions for the "Midnight Sun" scenario please post them here! Thanks for your help everyone!

So in answer to the original question, I'd say a Series as Opposed to a Campaign (I always look at a campaign were you keep the same units through the campaign).

Chronologically...
1. Threading the Needle
2. The Midnight Sun
3. Operation Exodus
4. Bodo Express
5. In the Jaws of the Bear
