Unfortunately It´s true that not much is positive about this issue.

Although some think that gratitude should be shown for those in the frontline, the truth is that they (as us) are all just victims of this system that has carried out so badly! A nurse stated that she lost her mother, and aunt which both lived together due to the virus. She now thinks it was her fault beacuse she works in the frontline!

As for economy/security goes, here´s Abraham Lincoln:

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one. Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither

It´s the end of the month and no income help in sight! Social unrest is boiling while people are dying and can´t pay there bills, or running out of food!

Actually that is a paraphrase of this:

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Found in a letter thought to be written by Benjamin Franklin in 1775 concerning funding for the security of the frontier. It has since been hijacked and bastardized for other political means.

Actually, 1755:

quote:

Despite its many (many) variations, this is the actual quote:

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

According to Wittes, the words appear in a letter widely presumed to be written by Franklin in 1755 on behalf of the Pennsylvania Assembly to the colonial governor. “The letter was a salvo in a power struggle between the governor and the assembly over funding for security on the frontier, one in which the assembly wished to tax the lands of the Penn family,” he explains.

The letter wasn’t about liberty but about taxes and the ability to “raise money for defense against French and Indian attacks. The governor kept vetoing the assembly’s efforts at the behest of the family, which had appointed him.”

Indeed, if you look at the text surrounding the famous quote, it’s pretty clearly about money: “Our assemblies have of late had so many supply bill, and of such different kinds, rejected, on various pretences,” wrote Franklin.

I intentionally paid my rent promptly, my landlord is a good friend.

But in Toronto I saw a news item where a landlord specifically told his building to forego their rent for the time being.

I agree. Also, if at all possible, comment Random Acts of Kindness.

Yes, Mr Franklin was a great man. I like to have lots of pictures of him on cloth paper and I have to see them leave. He stayed vigorous into old age - you could have asked the ladies in France about that! Many people have paraphrased a good quote.

Abe Lincoln was great as well, but a different time with different problems.

Retired now, so I'm already socially isolated.

Also happy that I purchased a bunch of new socks and underwear a couple of months ago.
As it seems that all the clothing industries are producing masks and PPE apparel for the frontline medical staffs.

As a veteran, I already have a 3 month supply of dehydrated stores on hand for emergencies.
And who runs out of toilet paper, soap and bleach anyway.
Aren't those items needed for everyday usage?

As long as you have toilet paper and coffee no worries.

A clean plastic bottle fixed onto a broken branch with the broken end in the bottle to collect the sap which is potable.

edit: Your picture is of a ranger unit. Didn't they teach things like that?

I'm more sophisticated than that, I have a portable hand held sump pump.
You can use the sap method, the bulk method is better for retaining a surplus for storage.

Ranger Class 9-77, what about you.

Thank you!!

It shows how horribly unprepared and over-reactive our society is for the most part. For example, keeping a week's worth of food on hand at all times is really easy. More than a week's supply takes a little more effort. As for TP, omg how hard is it to buy one of those 48 roll bundles and when you get down to 12 go buy another? And anyone with one of those 'spare' or 'extra frig's should have no problem keeping several liters of water and rotate them out with fresh every now and then. [How long does water keep in the frig anyway?]

On the positive side, maybe people will now think that local production is beneficial. Cost reduction has reached its limit.

When one considers the cost of transportation and possibly the cost of paying for the goods before they leave the country of origin, it may not even be cheaper. The opportunity cost of not having the money if you pay for the goods weeks before you sell them instead of being able to sell them and then pay for them may be overlooked.

That last one about the animals reminded me of another video where gangs of monkeys were fighting each other because the tourists who typically fed them were gone. So there is a give and take. Animals relying on human intervention are starving. Ones that are not are finding a new world open to them.
