When I place an infantry platoon straight out of the database, and attempt to load it as cargo on to a helicopter, for some reason it won't load. If I add infantry sections to a helicopter and unload them, they'll load fine in anything else. Is there a fundamental difference between the infantry units in the database and the infantry sections in the cargo menu?

I'm afraid there is.

The 'cargo' elements will form units once unloaded and they will act as ground units but the composition tends to be arbitrary. Dropping foot units out of the same carrier will form one unit comprised of everything on that one carrier. If there is a mobile unit in the mix it will form its own unit. It can be awkward and sometimes difficult to manage.

To simulate the transport of formed/established platoons you need to revert to either the Teleport or Lua method.

I think that all three methods (Teleport, Lua, or Cargo) have their uses for scenario design and together they can do most/all that you need but individually each has there problems.

We're currently looking to see if we can do something about this.
