I thought it might be good to discuss our initial strategies so as not to surprise each other.
So as the Soviet/USSR/Natchi/Comchi players here are my initial strategy thoughts which are colored by what I perceive to be a very strong and very experienced Japanese opponent in WILHELM_slith.
I propose to keep a very strong Soviet force, which includes Zhukov's HQ-A, on the Manchuria border to threaten Japan in the hopes of forcing him to divert Japanese forces away from his push against China. If necessary, I'll invade but only if he strips Manchuria and Korea bare to attack China.
In Europe, I plan to claim Eastern Poland on the first allied impulse. I will wait until 1940 to take the Baltic States in order to minimize the chance of losing a high value 1939 chit. Unless, you draw really poorly (e.g., 1's) in which case it would be best to get those out then than risk higher value chits you might get later.
I will setup up very strong against Romania, which lots of air in position to bomb the Polesti oil fields, and demand Bessarabia on the first allied fine weather impulse where there are at least 2 chits in the German/Italy entry pool.
I plan to stuff the border in order to press the Euro-Axis opponent to break the Nazi-Soviet pact.
I don't plan to invade Persia. I feel while the extra oil from there is certainly good to have, such an invasion would dilute too much the Soviet presence in Asia or Europe.
China. My strategy here is to hold on and hope to survive until the Western Allies get into the war against Japan.
