I'm upgrading the laptop I use for my photography and Matrix games.

I'm going from a Windows 7 laptop to a Windows 10 desktop.

The desktop's configuration is:
o Windows 10 home 64-bit
o Intel Core i7-9700F
o 16 GB memory
o NVIDEA GeForce RTX 2060 Super (8GB video memory)

I remember years back when people were upgrading to Windows 10 reading about
stumbling blocks people had when trying to get WITE working
on their new Windows 10 system. Still being working with Windows 7 I am ashamed
to say I didn't really pay much attention though now this has become relevent.

How easy will it be for me to move my game? Will I have to completely re-install
or can I simply copy the files from the Windows 7 laptop to the Windows 10 desktop?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

From my experience, copying the files will not be good enough as there are modifications to the system registry (made at install time) that the executable needs and relies on.

The install on Windows 10 should be painless.

The biggest challenge will be on how to configure compatible High DPI scaling on your Windows 10 system such that it works with a somewhat aged DirectX application. Or, you may be lucky and your default settings do not pose an issue.

For me, I had a lot of issues with part of UI getting cut off because I use 150% High DPI font scaling on my system, which WarInTheEast.exe does not like in combination with certain screen resolutions. (like 1920 x 1080, in my case).

Now, I could:
* disable High DPI font scaling to play WarInTheEast.exe, and effectively make every other Windows application unreadable (really?)
* read some outdated link to a "compatibility mode" High DPI application setting (which does not work either).
* use an external monitor (what I ended up doing after spending many hours trying the previous).

In all fairness, the Windows documentation is not good at covering High DPI configuration settings. Some of them do not seem to have been completely implemented either. (thanks Micro$oft)

Hopefully you will not encounter this problem and will not have to make any custom High DPI modifications on your system.
