Hi Apache85, I know you are the one behind this new feature
But I have a question about it...
I have checked the sub tutorials and also some of the silent service scenarios, but found it disabled.
Is there a scenario in the basic game ready to test it?
Or I have to edit one of the existing scenarios and enable it?

BTW everyone is hyped by Tacview but I found no mentions in the forum about this upgrade, which is IMHO, the greatest game changer between CMANO and CMO.

Cheers

Hey Andrea G,

Actually this is not my baby! The 'bell ringer' mechanic works well for larger combined arms scenarios, but for single unit or small group scenarios featuring subs it would really detract from gameplay.

One of my design objectives in The Silent Service was to show the effect of being cut off from communications as a submarine commander. The realistic sub comms feature does a great job of simulating command not being able to communicate with individual subs in real time, but most of The Silent Service was about being a submarine commander not being privvy to the big picture with HQ unless some effort was made.

To answer your follow up questions the Submarine Tutorials and The Silent Service Scenarios were designed with the player as a submarine commander in mind.

The remastered standalone scenarios are thematically true to their originals so they allow direct command of submarine units.

That said, a good candidate for testing out realistic submarine comms would be Canarys Cage. The submarines are important but not vital to your mission, so enabling submarine communications would not drastically change the outcome.

Bear in mind that with the added features beach recon with submarine deployed divers is a big advantage.
