Red Dead Redemption apparently had 1600 developers and has sold over 25 million copies !

(I only know this because an article randomly popped up on my daily Wikipedia search.)

Here :-
Tigers on the Hunt was basically Peter Fisla
English Civil War, Spanish Civil War, Thirty Years War - basically Leibst (Miguel Sanchez ?)
World War One - was basically er um, Calvinus ?

Anyway.

This thread is a thank you to the little guys who produced some fantastic games on their own or almost on their own.

Edit: I am sure there are others and I am sure some people will list them.

Here's the often forgotten truth though.

Average mainstream title population of available customers = millions.

Average wargaming population of available customers = thousands, maybe 10s of thousands.

Average number of units sold of mainstream titles = a great deal more than average number of wargame titles sold.

Plenty of us here likely qualify as mainstream gamers. But the vast majority of mainstream gamers likely don't even know Slitherine group even exists.

You can't sell wargames to imaginary gamers. There's only so many of us in existence to sell wargames to. You don't base your income on selling wargames to us. You need to have an income based on something that actually pays the bills. If I were to win the lottery, sure, with 10 million in my bank account, I could likely approach say Gary and company and say, "Here's a millions bucks, now finish our damned Steel Tigers game NOW" and I suspect it would be done fairly quickly.

Bob corrected a mistake in George's code that truncated a sentence. Fred corrected Bob's mistake when he corrected George's mistake. Bob and George got paid contractor rates for one day. That's two developers.

Yes, obviously there is more money in mainstream games, but I don't understand why for years we have had these 1-2 person development teams scattering their efforts. This results in all the half baked games with little or no support that we have had for many years. Why can't several of these guys get together and do it right? Make one Tactical, one Operational and one Strategic game. They don't even have to do the entire game if it is patterned on The Operational Art of War, for which the community gladly contributes Scenarios and Graphics free of charge.

I suppose there is a story or two in our history where a group effort was attempted and failed. I'd like to hear it because maybe it will distract me from suffering the Terminal Game Depression Syndrome.

Build a highly detailed, land, sea and air game based of The War In The Mediterranean June 1940 - September 1943 and an equally detailed land, sea and air game about The Solomons May 1942 - February 1943.

Need never leave the house again.....

Build a highly detailed, political, land, sea and air game based of The Wars between September 1939 – September 1945 with the option of beginning earlier. Perhaps as early as 1931 with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria.
