I always prefer to buy the games directly here at Matrix Games or Slitherine, but this time the difference in price compared to Steam is significant:

Steam 67,99€
Matrix Games 76,99€

Is there any important reason for this?

Steam comes with network based DRM, considering it as some kind of rented stuff from Valve in my opinion. And so the game distrubuted there should be count as 'de-valued' by some unnecessary software overlays in my mind...

OMG IT'S CRAZY IN CHINA IT'S ONLY CNY 211 FULL PRICE AND WITH OWNER DISCOUNT IT'S 105 AND BIG DLCS ARE 70 EACH OMG

It's half price on Steam. $39 vs. $79.

Did you purchase the first Command on Steam? It's my understanding Steam will recoginze that and automatically apply the 50% discount for previous owners.

The price in USD is the same for Steam and our store. Though we do not always use the same conversion rates, so it other currencies it might differ.

If however, you are saying it is cheaper on Steam by 50%, that is most likely because you own CMANO on Steam and get an automatic discount. You can get the same discount on Matrix by using your original CMANO serial as a coupon code.

I initially bought the first Command from Matrix and later on bought it again on Steam because I was having difficulty keeping up with the updates and DCL's on Matrix...so I bought the first Command TWICE! (last of the big spenders. LOL)

I do not say that.

Full price in € on Steam = 67.99
50% Discount on Steam = 33.99

Full price in € on Matrixgames = 76.99
50% Discount on Matrixgames = 38.50

A 12% more expensive in Matrix Games. It may be a problem of currency exchange, although it still seems excessive.

I realize now that I could have used a Steam key, but back then I didn't understand how that worked. Oh, well...
Now I try to buy from Matrix and use the STeam key, but I was worried all the DCLs I bought through Steam for Command wouldn't work if I did that.

On Slitherine vs Steam I'm seeing a £4 difference (before discount) which is not a lot really. While I like the convenience of Steam, I don't want to be reliant on it; a couple of quid is easily worth the peace of mind.

When I went to buy the game on Matrix this morning, it was (and is) $79. Normally I thought there'd be a discount for people who had purchased the original game from Matrix (which I had done), but I didn't see a discount. Then I went to Steam and saw it for $39 (I explained that in a previous post in this thread.) I don't know why on Matrix it said the cost was $79, but faced with paying $79 or $39, I went with Steam.

The problem is we use the real exchange rate and Steam just use an arbitrary value.

Oh, now I see that it says on Matrix that previous owners get 50% off. It didn't say that earlier this morning when the game first went on sale, unfortunately.

Sorry Gents;

I have no pre-existing Command version from Steam or Matrix/Slitherine

On Steam CMO shows as PhP 1629 (US about 38)

On Matrix it is PHP 4,283.99 (US about 86)

Paying a touch more for freedom from Steam slavery would be ok but Golly GEEE Whiz!!!!

Hum.. Interesting. PhP - Means Philippine Peso

I heard Steam set a price levels in each country, But theirs has a very high probability region locks.

CMO is no constraint on where you can buy them anywhere in the world.

https://steamdb.info/app/1076160/

According to this, Argentine can buy them one-sixth the price by comparison with UK.

Fascinating,

Since they will not be selling at a loss, this would indicate that Steam is making gross profits in some places and reasonable profits in others.

Does the term pirate, or maybe crook, or other indicator of low morals and nefarious activities apply to Valve - Steam?????

I would not run the steam client app on any less security than a VPN. Their data collection processes I am sure reflect their other business "ethics".
