Early August 43, AI game of course...is this common ? I can not remember my earlier AI game. But it is a marked difference to a PBM for sure..

I was surprised to find this P40 unit had just reached 1008 kills in the unit display...guess they are real or also subject to FOW?

Hmmm, +900 missions by Aug 43 is possible but …

Aside from that, yeah, against the AI in a Nasty, Nasty scenario you can/will definitely have pilots with +50 kills => 99 exp/+90 skill.

They cannot get much more kills now, as most missions of the Japanese abort, their morale and exp should be in the cellar. They should still have enough planes as the AI makes them from "thin air"...

Wish I had 2-3 of such units in my IJ PBM, only weakness seems their DEF skill is a bit low, I normally have DEF skill in the IJ PBM around 65 with the better ones reaching 70.

This Spit unit is also quite good and has better DEF too :)

I suspect that each interception counts as a mission. And there can be many-many incoming waves in a turn.

I'd say you need to rotate a lot of those guys stateside for training billets.

Not waves, I think, but being sent up on CAP several times each day. Every time they come down to refuel or rearm the meter sets for another mission count, whether there was an enemy attack or not.

To the OP, not unusual, after a short period the AI sends in Betty et al unescorted, I would get 10-12 raids of 30+ each month and knock down 30-50%. Problem for Darwin is keeping the supplies going.

That last Spit pilot has no biz being in the front. Get him out of the unit before he puts his bird into the water or a mountain.....

I do not micromanage pilots anymore in an AI game (but in the PBM I do) it is too time consuming I rarely keep up with the 1 PBM I play. Cause the human player is quick to take advantage of errors or oversights one makes...

@ fcooke: This guy can try his luck with learning by doing - I have enough aircraft in the pools

@ JeffroK: In this game the AI does escort bombers mostly in the Burma area with some 70-80 Oscars in some cases. However those raids towards Darwin were mostly not escorted correct.

It would be in a real combat- but in this game the AI seems to have given up the GD-Salomones-Rabaul-Kavieng (+5-6 hexes around) area anyway. My recon found a dozen of fighters or so. And Rabaul itself is 90% damaged... I have now all the shiny P47s/F6s etc. there but there is virtually no work for them apart from training and flying CAP. Sometimes the AI would still attack my fleets with quite weak raids...
OTH in Burma Rangoon shows ca. 150 and Pegu 100 fighters and they send raids with up to 70 Oscars escorting....the AI at least managed to sink 2 or 3 CVEs (and a big TK convoy by CA raiders - but does not hurt we have enough cargo space)

Really quite different to a PBM..
