The Italian units in NA are suffering from oil shortages.
How can I increase the supply over the Med to Bengasi to Tobruk?
Installing a convoy route is not possible?

Send them oil as Germany. Oil is separate from supply.

Watch the port supply stockpiles for supply and effectiveness recovery.

Read the supply section in the rules book.

Thanks Alvaro.
Maybe a misinterpretation from my side...
In the "Leningrad.... endless supply" discussion, it was my understanding, that a path to a main supply base is necessary
get the stuff. In NA the ports of Bengasi and Tobruk have no supply (convoy) route to main Italy.
I was expecting this route at first glance.
And would'nt it be logical to have one?

The game here has a rather good mechanic.

Supply route to let's say Tripoli can be from Naples, Genoa, Trieste, Taranto or whatever. That's non relevant.
What is relevant is that convoys arrive at Tripoli.
That is nothing you see on the map, it is abstracted.
BUT if you have ships within 4 hexes of Tripoli, or air units within 8 hexes (correct me if I am wrong) - there is a form of interdiction and less supplies are delivered.

So if I put an HQ unit right at the edge of the port supply limit (about halfway from Tobruk to Alexandria) it should further extend supply by +1 for 5 hexes. Do I have that correct?

And if I have units within 5 hexes of that HQ, and adequate supply at Tobruk they should be OK?

Then I could load them up with truck supplies and make a mad dash for Alexandria and try to take it out before I run out at which point I will have the Alexandria port for supply.

Is that a reasonable plan for taking Egypt or am I missing something?

Why doesn't Malta hinder supply? I'm sure a human player would put an air unit there on naval intercept but the AI does not. Playing against the AI, it seems that there is no real reason to take Malta other than because I can.

That is about right. You put the HQ on the map supply level 1 as close as you can get and it extends it out a few more hexes. Then from El Alamein to Egypt it is Truck supply. You will be at the gates barely in supply but that is the real life situation for Rommel.

This way of supply now makes Create and Cyprus important in the game as bases for in supply air power with invasion threats in the rear.

If there is a bomber there it does interdict supply. It hits the port size which affects stockpiles which affects effectiveness recovery.

What perhaps you are midlead in thinking is that it crippled the Axis. It didn't. 90% of all Axis convoys got through. The Italians effectively accomplished their naval goals in the Med during the war. What did matter from time to time is if say an oiler got sunk and Rommel didn't get his fuel or a transport with 50 tank replacements.

WarPlan has a lot of deep play vs logistics. If the UK has a bomber in Malta, Crete, Cyprus they can impact how well the Axis are supplied in North Africa. It just isn't as noticeable as you think.

I conquered Greece and it appears that I automatically got Crete in the deal. Is that historic? For some reason I thought Germany had to invade the island separately.

Is it possible to 'chain' HQ's in order to take the extended supply of 1 and then extend it further with a second one? And if so, do they have to be from the same nation or just allies?

The reason you got Crete because the UK didn't put anything in Crete.

HQs can't chain. Taking Egypt is a bitch.
