I just came across this document on reddit. It seems to be an annotated slide deck of a government contractor discussing the use of OSINT in analyzing what they thought the Soviet maritime strategy would be in the event that the Cold War turned hot. It looks at what the contractor thinks Soviet strategy would have been (pro-SSBN, as opposed to anti-SLOC), who else in the US Naval Intelligence community came to that conclusion (as well as when and how they did), and critiques the way in which the establishment opinion came to that assessment.

It is an interesting source in terms of what the Soviet maritime operations planners may have been thinking during the mid-to-late Cold War, which strikes me as potentially helpful in thinking about CMANO/CMO scenario planning or execution in that era. It is also a fascinating assessment of the role that Open Source Intelligence can play in trying to figure out the intentions of other nations, which I think might have implications for the Command series and its players in a broader sense that could be worth discussing.

Thanks for this reference. I've added it to CMANO's unofficial Dropbox reference library.

Unofficial - i.e. not sponsored by WarefareSims, MatrixGames, Slitherine, their employees, relatives, pets or ancestors.

As always, any forum member can have access to this Dropbox resource. Just send me a PM with your email address.
